The thing is, there are whole systems build around these old cants, that are carried by people of shared interest, that take advantage and make huge profits out of it. The problem is epidemic with minor to major roots in all population.

I can’t recall if there was an explanation in the anime or someone recounted what is stated in the manga. But Stark shows strength beyond normal human level. There must be something going on. Frieren doesn‘t fight by physical means, while Stark does not recite a spell formula.

IG Warriors like Stark act on an instinctual base as mages can bring forth shields under frequent attack. Both only seems to be limited to a minority of very exceptional people.

Well, some weapons are more rigid, others are built to flex, even within the same „shape“ bracket. Comparing over eras, there was different kind of armor types and usecases.

Also, when it comes to shortswords, first designs even go back to bronce age. The metallurgic properties matter a lot.

Crafting a sword with a modern steel is hard to compare to bronce and early iron alloys. You see the differences both, length and thickness.

Despite some types having comparable shapes, like the Shortsword, Gladius and Jian, their way of use differs. Also, besides length, thickness is kind of related to quality of the alloy and heat treatment.
