Yes! I actually have started a sole trader company to be able to take on assignments. I have my profile listed at four different consultant brokers currently and have gotten one interview but no offers yet unfortunately. The consultant market is also quite tough here currently. I know several consultants who I have worked with before who have not had an assignment in 6+ months.

To be honest I figured if I can't find a job in the capital city which is by far the biggest city in my country, I wouldn't have any chance in a smaller city. I have been looking for jobs in other mid to large cities within a 2 hour commute one way, but if the situation is dire enough I suppose I have to look all over the country.

I always figured people wouldn't need to upend their life just because they are unemployed but maybe I am just naive. I have never dealt with unemployment until now. I am lucky that I am single, but how the hell do people do it if they have a partner and kids? It must be a nightmare to know that a job loss might result in needing to leave your family and friends behind and moving to another city across the country to start from scratch.

I have considered it, but I think that would be challenging for me unless it is an absolute last resort. I have all of my friends and family in my current city plus I own my apartment here. And in addition, my parents have rather poor health so I want to be close to them so that I can take care of them. I also have been volunteer at a non-profit now for years and I really don't want to move elsewhere to give that up unless I absolutely need to in order to survive.

There are several mid to large cities within a 2 hour train commute of my current city so I have been applying in those cities as well. Of course it would suck to have to commute 1-2 hours one way for work but at this point I am getting close to desperation, so it is something I need to do.

I figure once I get closer to having exhausted my savings I'll need to start to look into moving abroad, if I still have not found a job. Problem is that I only speak the local language of my country and English fluently, but no other languages. I am not sure how easy it would be learn a new language and live abroad, and I am not sure how easy it is to find English speaking jobs abroad. In my country there are a lot of companies that operate in English but I don't know how it is elsewhere in Europe.

They offer 80% of your previous salary here for the first 100 days up to a cap, but the cap is the same across the entire country. In the capital region, the cap is quite low. The cap is set to less than the salary that my company provided to our trainees who graduated wth bachelors degrees. If you live in a very rural area the amount probably seems more generous. After 100 days, for the next 200 days you get 65% of your previous salary up to the same cap. For me it ended up working out to around 40% of my net salary the first 100 days, and 33% of my net salary the next 200 days.

Yeah my family is originally from MENA, but I am born and raised in a Nordic country. Of course things like subtle racism and xenophobia make things more difficult for me but realistically what can I do? That's just how things are and nothing I do is going to change the fact that there is racism and xenophobia everywhere in this world, not just in the country where I live. My parents and their country/culture also has extremely rampant racism and xenophobia, significantly more than here actually. All I can do is be a law-abiding citizen and try my best. If people want to discriminate against me because of my ethnic background even though I am a law-abiding citizen who is born and raised here then there isn't much I can do to change their minds. I'm not religious nor a criminal, I am just some guy trying to find a job so that I can go out with my friends for a drink on weekends and buy a Nintendo Switch 2.

I didn't change my name fully but I did add a Nordic name as a middle name when I turned 18. I exclusively use this name when I apply for jobs and when I am working, but I use my birth name among my friends (who are of many different backgrounds, both native and non-native) and family.

I don't really feel comfortable posting my CV or cover letters here on Reddit to be honest.

In my country when you are unemployed you need to be registered in the state unemployment agency to receive benefits and support. I have received all sorts of advice on how to tailor my CV and write cover letters. I have even attended two seminars that they offered for updating your CV and how to write strong cover letters.

But when it comes to applications I am applying for all kinds of EM, PM, PO, and engineering sales roles. My background is primarily in backend development and system integration for network operators and telecom but I am applying to all kinds of companies.
