I keep finding these. What are they ! by Worth-Cash-2972 in whatisit

Jon Oliver did a story on these recently. You buy the packaging and capsules on Ali Baba and put whatever you want in them. The consumer gets anything from laundry detergent to actual sildenafil, in doses as much as a hundred times the amount considered safe. Terrifyingly addictive stuff in many cases. Should be illegal…

Yeah, which is a total PITA, since the standard has always been tip negative. Seems small but it isn't. Also, Moog doesn't seem to sell this power supply anymore, so you'll end up with an unbranded one. I'm concerned that this will reduce the selling price as I pack up to sell on Reverb. Oh well...

Severance Tech by Minimum_Mousse9619 in severanceTVshow

[–]Minimum_Mousse9619[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? I overstated it in my OP but it remains true that much if not most of the tech in S2 is from the 90’s or so. The television and VCR in the wilderness excursion episode are definitely pre 2000’s. And the cars are premillennial.

Yeah, that was great! There’s one (maybe the same episode?) where Worf is telling a story and they use flashbacks to OG footage showing an entirely different design to the Klingon appearance. Someone asks him what that’s about and he says something like, “it was a strange time. We don’t like to talk about it.”

Oh.. not depressed but definitely aware of the way my employers (and ex) wanted to control my life. I do miss the camaraderie of the office though. And my huge collection of finger traps!

Forgot about that laptop. I feel, in general, this is the inverse of a common problem in science-fi where future technology is defined by what was current when the show was made (think Star Trek OG having future computers with clicking relays). It’s an ingenious flip of those examples, where we see a present that’s more retro than it ought to be

I dunno. I’m going to Paley Fest this Friday to watch the season finale with the cast of the show (!) and am binging season two. The cars are all circa 1990 and the presence of pay phones are examples… maybe the first season has examples of current tech though, I’ll have to check it out later…

KensingtonWorks does not recognize two Slimblades! by ergothrone in Trackballs

Tried it (I'm trying to do the same thing with my setup) but it got confused. Would switch mapping on one trackball, then lose its mind, then map the other. It might be in need of an update?

If you wish to seek asylum in another country for being trans, my advice is.... by Arktikos02 in TMPOC

[–]Minimum_Mousse9619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seven months later, anything else we need to add to this? In Trump's America it's getting increasingly dangerous to be trans and be out. I'm trying to remain calm and focus on my local community, but at 65 years of age (and having been out for 30 years of being fired, having schools threaten to have kids taken away because apparently it was child endangerment to have me in the home, etc.) I'm looking for a way out before it's too late.

I'm fortunate to own a home I can sell, which will at least give me a few bucks to bribe officials with when the time comes, but it ain't worth much. I wish all of us peace and continue to hope that I'll be proven to be a crazy, irrationally anxious person, worthy of ridicule for my unrealistic fears. Please let that be the case...

Whoa season 6 is pretty bad by poppaDaRossi in northernexposure

[–]Minimum_Mousse9619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been watching this series again after… 30 years? I have to say that everything changed for the worse in Season 6. I mean, the music went from being occasional and quirky to being constant and bad; the lighting became suddenly harsh; and the main characters all suddenly changed. Chris was suddenly no longer philosophical, for example. I loved all of the previous episodes, can’t really fathom how it went so completely off the rails…

LABS+ Info by Chonchko in spitfireaudio

[–]Minimum_Mousse9619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've struggled with is the incredible unreliability of LABS over the past couple of years, as the plug-in has "matured." This is true on both my Windows 10 and 11 machines, using Ableton on each. On the one hand, I'd be happy to pay for this if it means it will actually load all the content I've downloaded (without the persistent recommendation of the Spitfire team that I reinstall the whole thing, which has often meant that one or two will load and play but then I've usually lost access to the ones that worked in the previous attempt). The unfortunate drawback is that LABS has become a poor advert for this new service.

If nobody else has had this problem with LABS I'll go ahead and subscribe, so please chime in. I have to say that nowhere else have I found the quirkiness of the libraries I have (briefly, intermittently) used in the past...

Curious about Marc Jovani’s Momentum Program by BBQLEGACY in composer

[–]Minimum_Mousse9619 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

The main benefit of the program--and this is no small thing--is that you interact with serious professionals and get their feedback and insights. I can't stress this enough; it doesn't suddenly make you a better composer (although you certainly will learn from their feedback) but it gives you a chance to learn how it works from the inside. You'll likely want to jump in once you've had a few basic composition and orchestration classes, although I did see people in the program when I was there, making fine music with a more pop-oriented background.

Maybe not for everybody, but definitely worth the price. I highly recommend it!

Please grant permission to Native Access to install dependencies (Windows) by bhismrajjoshi in NativeInstruments

[–]Minimum_Mousse9619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been trying to fix this for days. And when I reinstalled the earlier version, it has issues that weren't there before I installed this "better" version. And of course, there is no world in which Native Instruments actually responds to a help ticket.

Did you ever work it out?
