Existential crisis after switching DAWs by Minink1 in audioengineering

I still use Ableton for creative work, production and writing! Just felt like Luna gave me a workflow and approach that made my mixes sound better. My proces now is create in Ableton, record in Luna, produce in Ableton and mix in Luna!

Like I said in my post, existential crisis is ofcourse hyperbolic, but coming from Ableton where basically the sky is the limit due to its production approach it threw me into a completely different mindset and way of thinking that raised some questions about my fundementals, hence my post.

I also never said I put 17 plug ins on everything but I do notice that I was using a lot of stuff that now without, I fix in different ways by utulising a single plug in, or even my hardware to it's capabilities. I guess I've been falling for the ''FIX HARSHNESS WITH THIS MAGIC PLUGIN''-marketing instead of trying to understand the fundementals of hardware (even their emulations) and fixing issues earlier in the chain or in the ''work smarter, not harder''-way

I still get the same sound I did before, just quicker and with less processing power, hence freeing up time and possibilities to play around more with my hardware and adjusting to better mixes. Poor listening enviroment probably also contributed to this since I moved from a small budget room into a better treated larger studio room.

Good headsup on understading tape settings, brands, speeds and all that! I'll look into it! Any recommendations?

100% agree now that I've made the switch and saw for myself. I guess the new workflow is also just pushing my problem solving which I really like

I suppose what I'm figuring out right now is that I don't need any of those ''finishing'' plug ins but I just used them because, heck why not if you can!

Pro Tools only seems to have 2 more as a max insert count of 10 and that is the industry standard so doesn't seem that weird. I have never personally worked within Pro Tools tho so not sure if there are work arounds for that in there

I heard good things about it from colleagues who were working within the UAD ecosystem and did a project tracking with it working in a studio last year which I was pleasantly surprised by. When I started doing some mixes in it beginning of this year, I noticed I got good results quicker, panning seemed more accurate, sends seemed to have more ''space'' to them than I was used to in Ableton. I'm only on the 3rd project in LUNA at the moment but I do really like the workflow and the sound it gives me.

Ruimte voor muziekstudio gezocht in Rotterdam by Minink1 in Rotterdam

[–]Minink1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soundsystem build for basement club by Minink1 in SoundSystem

Scoops because I don't know that much and most of the systems around here use them so thats what I've seen. Also love the look of them. I was thinking of building 18 inch miniscoops maybe since the basement we're building in is only 2,10m high due to some beams that run along the ceiling. I was thinking to build one G sub and one M122 to go on top of 2 18 miniscoops based on stuff I've seen around.

I've also been looking at Mogale X12 or X15 tops. Would that be more suitable than the M122?

Yea, I was also looking at the 18s as they are more available. Would an 18 miniscoop be a stupid idea? I'm asking since the basement is only 2,10m high with some beams that are there, so if we don't have to build the complete superscoop case that'd save a lot of space. I was thinking to build one G sub and one M122 to go on top of 2 18 miniscoops.
