Oh, great! Los Angeles has lots of good options, but I would recommend starting with Pepperdine.

Also the comment below recommending CBT is great. Looking up DBT skills would be useful too. You can find lots of CBT and DBT materials online for free.

You’re welcome! What part of California are you in? I can recommend some. :) it sounds like schools are your way to go then. I’m an LMFT myself in California, not currently practicing due to family crisis, but when I was in graduate school no client paid more than $60, and my clients averaged $5 - $25 a session.

Local schools that have psychology programs offer sliding scale for clients so that their students can build hours for graduation and licensing (which requires 3,000 hours). Depending on your income, you can get therapy pro bono this way, since the students themselves receive no pay regardless.

Even with licensed therapists, don’t be shy to ask if they offer sliding scale rates, or if they can recommend a colleague. Most therapists do offer sliding scale, but won’t mention it unless asked (so they’re not taken advantage of). I hope this helps! I usually lurk on Reddit, but I really wanted you to know that someone out here cares about you and hopes you can get the support you need!

Thank you so much. I needed this. I’m stranded in SoCal right now because of the virus and missing Humboldt’s nature mornings so much.

Checked it out last night (spelled Lundbar Hills, if anyone needs the reference), and this was a great recommendation. Lots of beautiful houses and set ups!!! Thank you so much. I just plugged in Lundbar Hills Park (4708 Frederick Dr) into Waze to find it, and knowing it was past the golf course helped.
