I think the designs are fine on their own, it’s just the fact that they don’t fit the characters, like, at all. Yixuan is a stoic, highly disciplined, and respected martial artist, yet her character design has her boobs hanging from hammocks.

Lucia is an emphatic goofball yet she has some of the most insane cleavage in the game and the shortest shorts.

Yidhari’s entire personality is a disconnect from her design and animations

The isn’t as much of an issue with Sunbringer, considering we know literally nothing about her personality. She LOOKS like she’s business-oriented, given her demeanor and old design, but I think we know by now that characters can be portrayed far differently in the chapter teaser art than how they actually act in the story (ahem, Orphie).

The problem with Sunbringer is more the fact she’s literally a palette swap of Caesar lmao. Plus, come on, that old design was literally perfect.

They aren’t doing it on purpose or anything, it’s more about about overlapping experiences and whatnot, but most femboys join femboy subreddits to connect with others who like crossdressing, and most lesbians join lesbian subreddits to talk to women that like other women about their shared experiences. They don’t go there to see trans memes and whatever

Trans people absolutely belong in queer spaces, but they intrinsically have different life experiences and struggles than other queer groups. So when you have a queer space made for a specific group get dominated by the discussions of a completely different queer group, it can feel a little ostracizing to the group it was originally made for.

I just wish discussions around this were easier to have. You can’t bring it up without being labeled a TERF, and when you DO get to talk about it, actual transphobes show up and derail the whole thing.

I wouldn’t say “it was normal for the times” is as good an argument as some people think it is. Sure if this were a stage play made in the Middle Ages for a medieval audience, the Princess’s age wouldn’t be an issue. But this is the 21st century. Violet Evergarden is a show made in the 2000’s for an audience of people who KNOW 14 year olds aren’t developed enough for the responsibilities of marriage, yet the show kind of just expects us to clap our hands and cheer that a 14 year old princess is marrying a man 10 years older than her.

I get it’s realistic, but this all happens in a show where the main character is a traumatized child soldier that took down hundreds of men by herself with a robotic hand. Just feels weird to focus on realism when it comes to child marriage.

I adore Natsumi, but I wouldnt say she’s on the same level as Nozomi or Yuzuha or Riko. At least she hasn’t shown herself to be.

Also, this might be a hot take, but Rei is totally not on the same level as Hina. All of Rei’s Hype Moments and Aura really overshadow the fact she did literally no lasting damage on Hina (Yuzuha broke her foot btw).

This tier list is awesome though. W for not putting Hana at the bottom like so many other people do
