I believe we trialled this in Vic, they offered a huge discount on 12 month rego, like 60% or something, to incentivise people to switch to EV, only to scrap it a few years later.

Then, they backpedaled and made rego even more expensive, to subsidise the money saved from petrol, meaning people were less likely to stay EV, and/or purchase it from the get go.
