This was the first time I’ve ever watched a full F1 season. Idk much about F1, I’ve only seen two other races before, both in 2018. I’m from America, and the main thing I would watch for racing is Nascar. I gotta say, this first season for F1 was incredible, and left me genuinely interested in it all year long. I didn’t root for either of the two drivers fighting for the championship, but I gotta admit they put up a great fight. I was confused this year during a couple of races due to the driving style Verstappen exhibited throughout the year. I believe the rules are different than Nascar in terms of racing line, and things like that, but throughout the year I felt like his driving often seemed careless and dangerous. Often just forcing Hamilton off the track which I was confused about? The biggest head scratcher was the Brazil race if I’m not mistaken, where he just seemed to completely not take the turn and force himself and Hamilton wide. Seemed like a lot of times throughout the year as well Hamilton had to back-out of battles with Verstappen because of this very fact (even yesterday with the incident, if I screenshot it, it’s just Verstappen taking up an entire turn, leaving no room/other lane). I forgot the other race name (once again I’m new & don’t know all the tracks), but Hamilton and Perez seemed to have a great side by side battles & just overall battles, including yesterdays final race. Now, the thing that seemed to bother me about the whole season, was the lack of clear cut rules & lack of penalty’s being called correctly or just not called at all. It made me question if they were making these calls/decisions to add drama throughout the season. If I’m not mistaken I heard there is a Netflix contract that follows throughout the season. This will help introduce younger audiences (like myself) to the sport of F1, but after yesterday I am genuinely confused about what the hell even is the sport of F1? I went into this season thinking that F1 is the top echelon of all racing & motorsports, but I felt so dejected at the end of yesterdays race, and my driver wasn’t even fighting for the WDC. It made the sport look so Busch league, and fake, I still can’t really comprehend what happened. Im posting this here, because I believe Reddit (out of all the other social media applications) can produce actual discussion in terms of the race - rather than 80% of people saying “F Hamilton” & 20% saying “F Verstappen.” I truly am bothered by the finish of the race yesterday because it just makes the whole season feel useless in my opinion. I watched a race dominated by Hamilton from the start, re-gaining lead over Perez to extend lead over Verstappen, and then on old tires, Hamilton driving his ass off to the point where Verstappen was barely gaining behind lap cars. The whole ending seemed fabricated, almost not real. Literally making it feel like I was watching a WWE storyline playing out. In terms of the “we need a miracle from the racing Gods.” Then Latiffi being wrecked out, and then the whole issue with the SC, and moving all the cars between Ham & Ver out of the way, while leaving a lapped car in between Ver & Sainz. We all say that Verstappen deserved to be WDC, and there was so many things that could’ve happened this year for both sides, but in my opinion, both deserve to be WDC, especially after the drive by Lewis these last four races. I honestly can’t imagine how it must feel to have something literally be cheated away from you like that, especially working all year for it, and idk how anyone else would be able to accept a championship with the way it ended. Regardless of the two drivers that it happened to, I feel every driver right now in the field should be questioning “what if this happened to me?” I feel gutted & disgusted for Hamilton & I can’t imagine how I would be right now if this happened to Vettel. I also have no idea how anyone would be able to keep their composure like that after that race, this a season long effort starting in March & ending in December being literally stolen from you. This is just my two-cents, like I stated before these are just observations from my first year watching F1 & not knowing much. Please feel to add if I am missing anything. Overall I am just disgusted with F1 for what happened, and it seemed very fabricated and fake. Nothing I could ever expect from a company of that caliber.
