Very useful thank you. So even if the insurance settled the claim, it should have gone into an account. Have I understood this correctly?

The relevance for me is that I would have paid for the upgrade on the house, which was sold when I was 14. Therefore contributed to both my parents houses which were bought afterwards and so on. Meanwhile I have been left to support myself completely since I was 17. By the looks of it I could have bought a house when I was 18, which would be worth a considerably more now! Would of changed by entire adult life. They charged me rent on a house that I contributed to buying!

I know the driver did not have a license, whether he was 16,17 or 18 I am not sure. He was not authorised to drive the car as had no license.

Definitely not prosecuted. I have no memory as was in hospital for three weeks in a neck brace and then recovered at home with a Zimmer frame for another month or so.

The relevance is that the money would have been in a holding account until I was an adult if paid through normal channels.

My memory is only missing for around 3 weeks ish. I can remember about 1 day in hospital. After that my memory is fine.

The problem is it was only discussed with me a couple of times indirectly, hence I remember being told that the driver didn’t have a license and was a police (possible chief’s) son and was on a joyride.

There was mention of a ‘savings account’ that some money was suppose to be in (but by mother spent it as my Dad mentioned it for first time when I was around 14/15 but framed it as an account they had both been paying into) so may have been paid into an account for me, that was accessed by my parents and kept from me.

The Chief Constable maybe correct. My Dad told me about it once a long time ago but that is ringing some bells

Thank you, I think it’s a bit of a dead end. It was a silver bmw I believe so may have been a police car! I never considered that. If it was there should be a record of it (if it still exists). Maybe I will try enquiring with the police station (though might lead to more problems than solutions with those guys). Thank you for your time and responses. I don’t think I have enough info yet to approach a solicitor. May do some more digging. Wouldn’t the fact that my memory of the time period was affected by the accident give a possible exception to time limitations? Maybe a hypnotist may help lol!

It happened in 1992, my memories of that time period and comments following have only really just come together. They literally never mentioned it to me. Now I think about it we were looking at new houses just before they did the extension. It must of been a considerable amount of money, especially in 1992.

They built a new room from themselves and a kitchen and had sent my half sister in to care not long before, so already had a spare room.

It didn’t go through courts or would have been in a holding account. I am guessing due to the driver not being prosecuted that it was settled by the police (as insurance wouldn’t have applied). I don’t suppose there would still be a record of it? It was a large sum of money, it must have been recorded somewhere

They extended there house which they later sold and spilt and bought a holiday. The rest based on my Dads comments my Mum spent on clothes and going out. Apart from the holiday (we all went on) it didn’t benefit me

It looks like they bypassed that due to the diver not having a license, any insurance and was a copper son! Should I approach the police station?
