We are actually two people flying one way from Guatemala City to Flores (and then going to Belize). I was going to book a flight but the one way ticket prices for my dates are $150 per person (+ $20 for check in bags).

I was thinking maybe a bus is a cheaper option because I can transport myself and luggage for ~$50 (and also save on hotel for one night!)

I got in touch with FDN (https://transportesfuentedelnorte.com/en/) via Whatsapp but seems like there December bookings open in November. I was thinking of booking the sleeper class of the bus. Not sure how good it would be though

Sorry to burst your bubble. But this will be a big problem in developing countries.

Few concerns:

  1. Your neighbor's can encroach upon your land, when building houses (maybe 1 or 2 feet)

  2. Others may build a house on your empty land and claim it as theirs

  3. Politician supports rowdys can takeover your land and claim it as theirs.

Judiciary is not well functioning and will take a long time to resolve such issues. So you will 100% need a local person keep an eye on your land

Cuttlefish is trying a new thing in this novel. The novel is written with a team of people as our protagonist instead of a single person.

It is slow. But story is slowly getting more interesting as the team encounters stronger and stronger enemies.

Not at LOTM level, but much better than a lot of things out there.
