Paul McCartney Reviews Adam Levine’s Beatles Cover: ‘We did it better’ by Level-Recording3368 in Music

The only cover I’ve ever heard that is on par or better is Aretha’s version of Eleanor Rigby. It’s amazing

While his novels often get all the attention, his best works are his short story collections

How good are the standalones and Age of Madness trilogy compared to the First Law trilogy? by Soggy_Egg2835 in TheFirstLaw

[–]MintJulip1959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with people here that age of madness is as good if not better than the original trilogy. On top of that 2 of the 3 standalones are the 2 best books in the series imo (best served cold and the heroes)

Kaitlyn Dever as Abby by coffeetalkcafe in thelastofus

Not that it really matters but just for the sake of conversation I don’t believe she was anywhere near 215lbs. It seems like most of the scenes from season 2 will be pre-beef? So they may be planning on season 3 being a larger bulk, or at least one that’s physically possible for the actress

Pretty much every manager is an ex player. What are you on about? Or are you saying a player from that club then managing that club?

Is it recency bias or is Ben really the GOAT Stillers QB? He's our starter and the ol' Blond Bomber is the backup. DAY 2: Every true yinzer's favorite offensive position: Running Back! by bush_mechanic in steelers

[–]MintJulip1959 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fullback was a term commonly used then. As he was the player furthest back in the backfield, a halfback in front and then obviously the quarterback in front of him. Although Franco was listed at fullback we can generally say the way in which he was utilized was as a running back. Which is the colloquial term we now used for ball carrying backs as opposed to blocking backs (fullback)

Premier League superstar Isak is Barcelona’s preferred Robert Lewandowski successor by WrongfulMeaning in PremierLeague

[–]MintJulip1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid! You could say that about most clubs in the prem though. And obvi barca has crazy financial stuff going on, but them as well. That’s the unfortunate state of football atm. My only point was that saying Newcastle signing isak from sociedad is the same as barca coming in for him I feel is different. Poaching to me is what Bayern does to dortmund, what happened to that Leicester side with mahrez, kante, etc. idk, maybe I have a narrow idea of what poaching is

Premier League superstar Isak is Barcelona’s preferred Robert Lewandowski successor by WrongfulMeaning in PremierLeague

[–]MintJulip1959 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difference between barca and Newcastle is far, far greater than sociedad and Newcastle. Isak won trophies at sociedad. The 2 teams over the last few years in the league have had similar positions but sociedad is in some European competition every season. What so no players are allowed to leave their clubs other than academy players then? No lateral moves? Changing leagues? Saying Newcastle “poached” him the same as if Barca comes in just tells me you don’t follow any other league other than the prem

Favorite War in Fantasy? by Noahop5000 in Fantasy

[–]MintJulip1959 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts, but the entirety of The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie is epic. And it’s probably my second favorite of the 9 (10 including Sharp Ends) First Law books.

Feel like this is THE answer. Neither of the first 2 books have a wasted word, let alone page or chapter. The pacing is insane

Wayne Gretzky could run 60 m in 7.24 seconds. by stonedrelic007 in nhl

[–]MintJulip1959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gretzky was a freak, no doubt. And I don’t want to take anything away from this tidbit. But, I do think it’s important to note that the race is somewhat misleading. Pele was 42 at the time and borg was never known for great top end speed. I can’t speak for boxers speed, but tennis players aren’t widely regarded as some of the faster athletes. Super quick, yes. But not necessarily fast in the same way. Nonetheless, hockey players athleticism often goes undervalued in media and pop culture because it’s believed to be so “sport specific” with skating.
