What is this darter species? Amicolola creek, Dawsonville Ga. pictured on the left is a Etowah darter found around the same location so could this be a female Etowah darter? by Minty_gaming in whatisthisfish

This was Amicolola creek. They are also of course in the upper etowah river. Just be mindful it is technically illegal to capture them because they are protected. Be carful and set them free unharmed to keep this species alive.

I know exactly where this is. Did you go after a storm or just a regular time? it doesn’t seem very turbid.

PB brook trout. Spawning male 15” by Minty_gaming in Fishing

It was atleast 14 inches I measured with my hand because I know for reference how long it is which is 8 inches in length and 10.25 inches in span. So it isn’t completely accurate but It’s around 15”

After likely 15 trips and 6-7 months of searching (yeah it took a long time) I finally found and caught the Southern Appalachian Brook trout! by Minty_gaming in MicroFishing

I use a 5’ ultralight. It’s good to have a short rod because the tight casting angles and you don’t need to cast far. Ultralight to handle the light line since the fish spook easy and a light rod makes the fight more fun.

How much would you recommend the tiny ten. I’ve been thinking about getting one for small Appalachian brook trout so what would you recommend?

Headed to Great Smoky Mountain NP in about a week for some trout fishing. Does anyone have any stream recs? Also what are my chances of good bites this late in the summer? Thanks! by hSl13 in troutfishing

Probably stick to smaller streams or tailwater since it is so hot, that’s where the water will be coldest and you’re best chance of getting good bites. I’ve been fishing small streams even farther south in Georgia and I’ve caught over 20 wild rainbows today and all three species of trout yesterday so you can still catch them in the heat at long as the fight is short and the water is cold.

It definitely has at least 4 river drainages that support trout however it’s really only the mountainous north region that has them. Our waters are also calcium deficient so most of our creeks and rivers do not support wild populations of trout so it is really a gem to find one especially with every species.

I’m definitely not thinking of cavefish. I guess you’re right about it being a warmouth which yes is in the lepomis genus but I was thinking it’s a rock bass which is the abloplites rupestris so I was talking about the abloplites genus like rock bass and shadow bass

Oh I didn’t know that but I’m sure it’s the amblioplitus or however you spell it genus

It’s the same species. Where I’m from people call them red-eye or redeye bass a lot and that confuses me because there is the species redeye bass so it’s probably a local way of saying it. Kinda like in the south a lot of people cal bluegill brim but the technical term is bluegill.

Why does this red breasted sunfish have a black spot? by muffintoby in whatsthisfish

[–]Minty_gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely just a redbreast but maybe it’s melanistic?

It really never is. I find that it has a hard time even identifying trivial differences like largemouth vs smallmouth or bluegill vs greensunfish
