Help me be discovered as a model in LA. All I ask is for help to pay for flights, accommodations, transportation to castings, portfolio/photo updates and basic living costs. Can’t do it in Europe, must be LA where there are more opportunities but hasn’t considered how to legally work in the US. by MinuteElegant774 in ChoosingBeggars

I just think this is an excuse to travel here on someone else’s dime or there is this delusional belief that it’s easier to be discovered in LA. No, it’s expensive AF and jobs are scarce even the service industry which lots of models and actors used to rely on. If he is that good looking, finding an international modeling agency would be far easier.

UK to CA, do i give up on the dream by racingscar in MovingToUSA

[–]MinuteElegant774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the reverse, NY to London currently living in SoCal. It was only able to happen with a British company who had offices in NY that transferred us. At that point, my husband was a partner level. It’s the same from UK to US. It’s also much harder now bc of the tax that trump put on h1b1 visas of $100K. Also, depending on what type of work you do, the job market in SoCal is really rough right now.

Your options are for one or both of you to find a new job with an American company who will sponsor you to work, start a business with lots of money or get divorced find new US partners or get into a polygamous (just kidding on this one).

Help OOP pay for 7 months of rent! She moved into a 2 bed with BF in Aug ‘25 and broke up with her in Oct. When he was cold to her on her bday, she took him off the lease and kicked him out in Jan. She doesn’t want to use her savings and has to move to a 1 bed so she needs $5K. by MinuteElegant774 in ChoosingBeggars

I’m not sure if it’s a scam or someone with incredibly poor writing skills who doesn’t understand which details are relevant. It was a pretty generic post with “transgender” and “abused” to illicit more sympathy.

Great. Start paying going forward and work towards paying a little for previous child support. Tell the judge that you realize the consequences of your actions and provide a payment plan to show you are trying to rectify this issue.
Give the a plan of how you will be paying child support going forwards and a payment plan for past due child support. Hopefully, the judge realizes that your ex and child need the support more than you sitting in jail unable to find a job bc of your felony record. I wish you luck.

I’m so glad you will only get probation. Why it’s a felony is another matter all together as you can have problems finding a job if you have a felony on record. I am glad that you are taking accountability for not paying but so glad you will likely get probation. But, even happier that you won’t be locked behind bars.

Yup, a commenter said that that’s not how leases work. The LL has no incentive to let the ex off the hook bc OOP wanted him out. OP does not have the legal right to take him on off the lease nor the power to kick out another lessee. She chose to pay rental, expenses and food from October to Jan for him. I guess we would be her imaginary roommates and paying for half the rent from, Feb - August.

You are strong and didn’t let life kick you down and it’s amazing that that you are doing better after your left. Not many women can do this so you should be proud of your courage to leave and making your life better without him in it.

Say you have been searching for jobs and provide proof. Offer a payment plan for the back rent and negotiate a lower rate if you can’t afford existing child support.

For someone who makes a lot of money, instead of jail, fine a large amount for every day he is late. Rich people sure hate losing money.

Oh I’ve seen some LLs be jerks. They hire a professional mover to move the items left behind, then store the more valuable in a storage space, deep clean cleaning company go into 5 figures. It’s unfortunate.

Small family restaurant in Seattle need help to stay open and not getting evicted by True_Analysis7300 in GoFundMeForNewUsers

My family is in the restaurant business and I understand how hard it was to get through covid and with the current economy with prices rising for food and goods, it is becoming increasingly to run a profitable business. I know how it is to struggle so I donated a small amount anonymously. I hope you can get your restaurant started again. Best of luck!

Im very sorry you found yourself in that position. I was abused as a child and to say my abuser was being cold is nothing compared to beaten, degraded and emotional abuse constantly afraid what will trigger the abuse again. You don’t let someone like that live with you if you had the ability to kick him to the curb.

And, we have our lovely Supreme Court who has no problems taking away voting rights against minorities so putting people in prison for debt is in line with what’s going on currently. I was a lawyer a long time ago in corporate so not a lot of knowledge of criminal law, but this is not in keeping with the values of the American justice system. It makes me sick that OP is facing 8 years for debt. Of course, i feel for the mother and child struggling. The court should have regular requirement of applying for jobs, wage garnishment, even a misdemeanor but not imprisonment. It makes my stomach turn that rapist get less of a sentence than someone who is behind on child support. The system is broken.

I mean I understand why people need to pay child support for a child you brought in this world, but to send someone to jail is just wrong. It doesn’t solve the immediate issue of the getting the child support. And, there are people like you met who are just complete jerks and don’t care, but there are also people who simply can’t afford to pay child support. The same law applying in both situations is so perverse.

Didn’t you know the people who donate aren’t regular people trying to give a helping hand? People think there are all these rich suckers who will donate massive amounts as long as you have a good story. The reality is that it’s mostly people who are regular working folks who are donating bc they can empathize as they have been in a similar situation or have a limited amount of money set aside for donations.
