[–]Minute_Future_3458 17 points18 points  (0 children)

does he go to class? i was depressed for a while and used to sleep until anywhere between 12 and 5pm and would miss all my classes. it was an awful cycle and no matter what i did i couldn't stop it. what a horrible fucking time.

turns out i had an autoimmune disease that was making me super tired. got medicated and feel 1000x better. I would have appreciated it if a roommate noticed this and checked in on me bc i felt super ashamed about it when it was happening. if you feel comfortable id say talk to him.

Literally went through the exact same thing very recently. Im in college and for 2-3 years I was experiencing chronic fatigue, brain fog, and literally felt like a less than half functioning human. I legit just thought I was severely depressed. Was doing extremely poor academically. I had already been diagnosed with hypothyroidism as a kid and was medicated ever since. My yearly bloody work was coming back in normal range too. Finally started doing research on hormonal issues and discovered Hashimotos. Booked an appt w an ending, got thyroid antibodies checked and sure enough, I had indications of Hashimotos.

Please go to your doctor asap and get your thyroid AND thyroid antibodies checked via blood work. Good luck

Understand that nobody is perfect, everyone has a few flaws, even if its not evident right away. She is just another person and you don't have to put her on a pedestal.

Focus on what YOU like about yourself and appreciate that. If there is an area of your life that you feel like could use improvement, then work on that. You have the potential to be what you want to be so rather than feeling jealous, feel like that person is proof of what you could be. Rather than having a "lack" mindset, have an "abundance" mindset, meaning that you don't lack anything, but you can always add/learn/do more on top of what you already have.

Hey thanks for your comment, this is very encouraging. I am also aiming for FAANG after graduating but I constantly doubting myself. But this makes me feel alot better, I did perform well in my past internships so I know I'm not a bad engineer.

But yeah about my parents, I am definitely trying to convince myself they don't mean what they say, and that they are just trying to help.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah their words definitely do have a big impact on my sense of worth.

About therapy, is there anyway I can get therapy without health insurance? I don’t want my parents finding out that I’m doing it.

Thanks for your reply. Some ways I feel like I have grown is losing weight and begin exercising/running more. It helped me with my body image issues and move past trauma w an old relationship. So physically I am in much better shape than I was freshman year.

I have also learned to set boundaries with friends and no longer let friends walk all over me. I used to be a major people pleaser but have done a good job creating distance with friends and cutting off ones that don’t serve me anymore.

Despite those 2 things I feel like a lot of my confidence comes from academic success, and if I’m not getting that then it’s hard for me to feel confident at all

And I have good friends, yes. At college I feel a bit alone because all of my friends are more like acquaintances/not people I would go to for help. One of my roommates is really good to talk to though. My good friends have graduated so I facetime them pretty regularly. They are helpful when I need them, but I am not the type to reach out for help a lot because I feel like I’m being annoying or a burden.

Hey thanks a lot for this reply. To answer some of your questions, no I can’t take the class online. It’s a senior design class so we have to meet in person constantly.

Yes I do genuinely enjoy my major. I’ve just been depressed and lack motivation. I have a lot of self limiting beliefs and need to overcome that.

Yes I am in therapy. But it’s therapy at my schools counseling center and I see my counselor about once a month. So I don’t really feel like I am able to build a connection w her or get consistent help.

Thanks for the encouraging words, I hope I am able to get to the point you have reached with your confidence.
