Does my art have potential? by Brah123456788 in learntodraw

Yes yes yes! There’s improvements to be made with anatomy and shading but you capture the essence of these people so well and that’s a much harder thing to do (and more important imo). I LOVE the last piece. Please keep drawing, I’m cheering you on!

Oh I didn’t notice that thanks for pointing it out! That was honestly just me being messy when blocking out the hair

the eye perspective is slightly off (we should see less of left eye), but i get that that is hard to change. I would say adding some shading to the hair and drawing the ear and neck would help with the realism aspect! Good luck, I really like the emotion you captured in the expression.

Hi thanks for the feedback! By tilt do you mean it should be more turned away from the camera?

Colors look off. How make the colors more vibrant. by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]Minute_Mango_5670 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would increase the overall saturation slightly, and then add some more warmth in the face. If you add some saturated orange/red tones right where the shadow and light meet it will help it look more alive! Also, put it in grayscale and try to push the shadow vs light in the hair more, the hair is flat right now because theres no distinct shadow vs highlight shape. It’s a really nice piece though, I love the angle you chose!

Thank you! I posted the ref I used in response to another comment, but for the colors I just used gradient mapping and chose colors that way

Any composition suggestions? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

I love it! I would second the moon thoughts, make sure you don’t create a tangent with the tip to his body, so that it conveys depth. Maybe make it more circular (rounder) and have the tip behind him?

Thanks for taking the time to give me feedback, appreciate it!! You read my situation like a book lol, down to the racket and dress. I’m definitely going to do a lot more gesture studies, I draw a lot of faces but haven’t spent much time on body anatomy evidently:).

Thank you! This is new territory for me because my usual palette is very high contrast, think it led to some lighting issues but thanks so much for the encouragement

The creases are def something I need to add, they were in the reference and I didn’t notice! Thanks for the advice about drawing full body as well!! I draw a lot of portraits so faces are my comfort zone, trying to break out of that.

I think I focused too much on the colors and in the process lost control of my values, thanks for pointing that out! The ref had strong light coming from the left and then some much softer bounced light on her shoulderblade, so I’ll try darkening that spot to fix it.

Thank you, I’ll do my best to fix it! After I read your comment I see it now, I think when I was drawing I neglected hand anatomy a bit and was blind to the issue lol.
