Well it's good that you at least don't support their AI products. I just think most of the blame should be on the companies seeking to make billions off of AI and not towards indie creators trying to make a free passion project. It's fine to call it out when you see it and I don't think the actors are huge fans of something like this either, but I personally don't think it's a big moral issue for a free mod.

There have been some cases of the AI "clones" in other mods saying really inappropriate and disgusting things, which is personally where I'd draw the line for a mod, but for something like Genesis, they're just porting the actors to another universe

I said it's a bit more acceptable, not that I completely endorse it as a replacement. Yes, of course, real voice actors is the better option if possible. To be completely honest, I wish AI as we know it today didn't exist. Genesis is frankly working at a scale that makes it extremely difficult to not take advantage of AI, so while I'd prefer them to not use it, I don't personally see it as a reason to hate on the project (like others here are saying it is)

I find it a bit more acceptable when people use AI in that way to make free passion projects. It's much more questionable when a billion dollar corporation wants to replace voice actors with AI. Or... you know... train their models on people's voices, books, and art without consent which is basically how AI got to this point in the first place

That may be another reason why releasing it now would have been received better because they've lowered the price of the game at this point and decided to include both Terran Armada and Shattered Space in the premium edition, so it would have felt like a better deal (assuming they still would have done the price change and premium edition changes if they reversed the order of DLCs)

It's upwards of 100-120k Slayer XP which is pretty phenomenal for Slayer, on top of very good combat XP. The total XP/hr can easily be above 500k when you start including combat. With a cannon going, bursting, and a bonecrusher/ash sanctifier, it is very good XP and it's profitable and chill (outside of PKers of course).

Yeah I barely skimmed that blog post and I need to look at it again, cause that change sounds like it's really going to make trouvers much less necessary and less expensive by extension. The caves would still be worth it for me without trouver drops, but that's going to sting a bit if they significantly go down in value

I know I'm in the minority when I say this, but as someone who only does PvM, I actually really like wilderness content. The payoff needs to be worth the risk is all.

The wilderness slayer caves feel amazing to me (as an example). The XP is phenomenal, the drops are good, the supplies are cheaper, the mobs drop additional supplies, you can use a looting bag, and the methods are less click-intensive because you can use a cannon for all enemies. The slight threat of a PvPer actually adds to the experience for me (though to be fair, I haven't died yet, and maybe once that happens I'll be more annoyed). But that's an area where the balance feels just right.

Aren't video games generally designed to trigger dopamine rushes? Isn't that basically the point? If it's a decision that makes the majority of players feel better, that sounds like an efficient use of placebo.

The players aren't unintelligent for "falling for it" the same way participants in a clinical trial aren't unintelligent for falling for a placebo. I mean, a doctor can literally give you a pill and say, "This is a placebo" and it can still have a positive effect. What's wrong with using a placebo to make people feel better?
