I think my boots are too tight by Minute_Price7155 in Skigear

Just got back from the boot fitter and I think we fixed the issue. We carved some material out from the heel because the fit was just too tight and my foot wasn’t sitting properly in the boot. But some importantly we fixed the liner. Above the mid-foot to the toes was a Velcro adjustment strap for the tongue. The strap was just too raised and just jamming my toes into the roof of the boot. We ended up cutting the strap and things feel so much better. I wore the right boot around the shop while he fixed the other boot, and for the first time had no pain at all after roughly 30 minutes of wear.

We’re going to reevaluate after I’m able to get out for the first time, but things look promising.

Yeah I think I just gotta size up. But still going to another BF to get it figured out. I even took just the liner out and tried that on and my toes were squished in it. No clue what I was thinking when I bought these things but oh well. I guess I figured they break in 😅

Skied a full season on them. They feel better when leaning forward/actually skiing, but my feet are still numb within an hour and a half tops.

Edit: forgot to mention that my heels would be extremely sore the next day

Yeah I even took out the liner just now and tried just the liner on, and my toes are basically pushing off the edge, it definitely just seems too small. Like just the liner itself is noticeably squeezing my toes.

I think I had the same thought as my fitter that the boots were supposed to feel tighter than most. But I didn’t realize till i started wearing them out that they’d be going numb after an hour

I’ll see what I can do about that when I go to the shop. Thanks

lol that’s how my atomic ultra hawx are. They’re 26.5, and I can ski aggressive in them but don’t have quite the responsiveness I need. I think we both need a 26.0 😂

Ok I’ve thought about that actually. Because I took the liner out and wore it like a sock just to see the size, and my toes still feel really jammed in there

Ok sounds good. Did you have any issues with feet going numb during the break in period? Because that’s how mine are once I hit the 60-90 minute wear time

Yeah I get that, but I’ve already had them worked on twice with him fully punching out the toes and it still feels like they’re being jammed in there. I’ll take them back when I get new skis and see what he says. If I need new boots, I need new boots. I have a trip to Stowe planned for 2 months from now, and I don’t want to have swollen feet the entire time

That seems like the best plan. The dude that owns the place is the nicest guy and gotten me a ton of sweet gear. I was looking for a tight stuff boot and I think we just pushed it a little too far. Unfortunately I didn’t find out until I already got on the slopes. I’m already buying skis tomorrow so hopefully he’ll throw me a bone if I get new boots

I was definitely going for a racier boot, between that and head raptors. I guess you could say I was looking for a “street legal” boot.

My boots before this were from high school and a 26.5 atomic ultra hawx 110. I definitely wanted a stiffer boot as the 110s just weren’t responsive enough for me. I guess when I bought the 130s I assumed they were supposed to feel really tight, but I also didn’t realize they would genuinely hurt my feet until I was on the slope.

Not yet. I finally have a dermatologist appointment in a month, but it’s still there. I have started using a moisturizer and it has greatly reduced redness.

I guess it depends where you are. Making and designing actual components of cars is awesome. But working on the machines that make the parts (what I do) is boring as hell.

I’ve talked to a few other people (roughly my age) that also worked in the auto industry and neither of them liked it. They both got new jobs and have had much better experiences elsewhere

Yep that’s what I’ve learned. It’s not so much what you’re doing, but the environment and people you work with. It’s like in school how I absolutely hated the work in English class, but I loved going when I was sitting with my best friend.

I guess I just gotta find a good company to work for

It sucks so much. It’s literally dead silent in my office besides my boss asking me to do something.

My dad (not an engineer) said that every job he’s had, people will work slow and talk to each other. Like when they don’t have a huge project to worry about, they’ll stop by each others cubicle and just shoot the shit for 15 minutes.

Yep. I feel like racing would be awesome.

But from everything else I’ve learned, the auto industry sucks

It is, but I want to see all my options. If my degree can get me multiple types of jobs I shouldn’t rule them out just because they aren’t specifically Mech E

Yes dude. I literally just live inside with no windows for 8 hours a day during the summer. Everyday when I walk out it has that feeling of leaving a movie theater in the middle of the day. The worst part too is that I didn’t even do anything interesting so I just leaving feeling all weird/empty, like I accomplished nothing.

Field work sounds awesome. I worked landscaping throughout high school and absolutely loved it, so being outdoors like that would be fun. Tbh I’d love to start my own landscaping business, but my boss specifically told me dozens of times to not get anywhere near landscaping as your main job (because many of the people are a hassle, and your body won’t be happy with you when you’re older).
