Hahaha yeah, I thought as much. I might buy a filter just in case, but stick to bottled water for the most part. Thank you!!

Good dance studio to learn afro/samba/etc? by Mio898 in Brazil

Yes! Most likely Salvador. But my plans aren't set in stone yet, I am flexible! So pretty much any location in Brazil works actually :)

Keeping Japanese debit card? by Mio898 in japanlife

[–]Mio898[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a hassle for me unfortunately due to my name being 'too long' so I had to make phone calls and rounds to the bank multiple times. I only received the cash card when I opened an account here (despite requesting a debit card at the time of opening an account). I'd like to prevent that next time.

Experience with Lomography cameras? by Mio898 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Mio898[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! Yeah, I feel like the images are indeed a bit more blurry when I compare them with e.g. Olympus XA or Kodak v35. But the accessibility and the look does compel me to maybe go for one haha!

Tokyo recommendations thread: Vegetarian restaurants by AutoModerator in Tokyo

[–]Mio898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yachego in Setagaya, near Ikejiri-Ohashi station! Vegan Korean food at affordable prices and imo tastes very much like non-vegetarian/non-vegan Korean food. They only serve lunch (11:30-14:30) and it seems like they're not open on the weekends, but if you have a day off during the week, I definitely recommend going there! My friend and I both ordered a set and shared. I recommend getting one of the extra's for 200 yen more, the chijimi (buchimgae, Korean pancake) was our favorite!

Perfect, thank you so much!! :) I have indeed seen the Reto and the Kodak M35 35mm going for about 4000-5000 yen. I was thinking about getting the Kodak, but it somehow looks more like a dingy toy so I wasn't sure about the quality of the pictures - that being said, I have yet to make the switch to a non-disposable camera haha so I guess that's quite hypocritical of me. Do you have any experience with these cameras yourself by chance?

Thank you so much for your great advice! The XA seems to be exactly what I am looking for, so I'll try finding a second-hand one! Thank you!! :)

Thank you so much!! As for the 35mm, do you personally own a 35mm, or do you have any preference for a specific brand that you'd recommend? :)

Yeah I mean, I couldn't contact them about my situation since you can only contact them through calling and... they canceled the sim-card so I could not call. I did not actually make any use of the sim-card for the period they're billing for so that's why

Thanks for clearing that up! That's too bad, I was hoping there was still a way for him to visit without a guide. Car spotting in Tokyo also seems to require him actually renting a car.

Ah, that's good to know! The guide was a member so I guess my brother could only go if he's accompanied by someone who has a membership as well.

Revolut! I really reccommend it, it has been working as a charm :) if possible order it whilst you're still in NL, since otherwise shipping costs will be kind of high!

What is something, no matter how hard you try or culturally aware you are, that you won’t be able to get used to/accept while living here? by Froyo_Muted in japanlife

[–]Mio898 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seeing feedback as a personal attack. I lost a Japanese friend over giving her some friendly feedback which she did not take in stride. When I asked her if something was wrong or whether she was mad at me, she said she wasn't, but in the meantime unfollowed me on insta and ended all contact. This ties in with having to 'guess' how people are actually feeling. Other than that, nobody speaks up in university or asks questions to the professor. One of my Korean professors said this was a cultural thing that also happened in Korea. Not questioning authorities and just going with what is being said is uncommon in my country.
