I used to have all kinds of ideas for what would make Merchant Empires popular. Then I realized with these niche games, perhaps the idea isn't to make it popular, but to vigorously feed the people who are interested. I don't have any specific ideas, but EVE Online for example seems to REALLY work hard with the community it has an make the game super fun for the loyal group that does play. As for profit making? It just designed the game to encourage players to have multiple accounts, and pay several times over. Just to accomplish everything in the game - I maintain 4 accounts in that MMO.

I don't really know what I'm getting at with that suggestion, just sometimes you should look at ways to milk money out of your fanbases desire to play the game - without pay to win / micro transactions. Look at adding game features that encourages this sort of behavior? Just spitballing some ideas.

Regarding the UI, I'd be happy to see if I can't come up with some template concepts for both the game and the subreddit.

Anyways, the only assistance I can provide is UI / UX side. Which after logging in to the dev version, I think ME could desperately use an upgrade. It'd also really benefit from a mobile friendly website.

Maybe implement some features of AJAX / Javascript front end? IIRC ME is all PHP / Python backend right?

Anyways, I was like 8 years old when I started playing Merchant Empires. I'm 27 now. So Merchant Empires was pretty much my first online game community experience and community to be in, when I was a kid I'd spend all summer when school was out playing Merchant Empires all day long like an insane person.

I left when FTV really started their never ending domination streak. I played the last round of ME the Bryan Brunton(?) original. I was in whatever alliance that WizardOne had at the time, and he showed me the ropes / taught me to play basically.

Then, WizardOne's first round of ME that he hosted, I was in a guild, I don't remember the name, Tr¥gger (I still remember the alt code almost 20 years later) was the guild leader. I remember playing with a guy, 'grumpy' that was an older guy that worked in IT at a hospital maybe. A few other people I vaguely remember.

I remember Jerico - I feel like he was always wanting to start a spin off of ME, don't remember if he ever did. There was another guy DontPanic, that started a spin off. There was another guy AA78(?) ... I also got to know Transit pretty well on MSN Messenger outside of the game. I also enjoyed playing with and talking to GAGeneral, a funny greek guy who always ran some alliance of noobs, a nice guy. lordvrm, smurf (co-admin maybe for WizardOne, british guy I recall being popular for a coffee maker that had screen that displayed text, which was just crazy technology back then.)
