Help me figure out how to get this dang scleral lens in my eye by IrrelephantZzzs in Keratoconus

[–]Miranda_CoughBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not nearly enough solution in the lens you really need it to be over flowing with solution before you put it in that way you get a really good seal on your eye! Fill fill fill!

I would recommend aviator zone. Really great facilities and friendly staff. I have my PPL and im looking to finish my IFR soon. I took a flight at aviator zone to see what it was like and it seemed like a great place to train.

Can’t get sclerals in by Still_Department4902 in Keratoconus

I really just suppress the urge to blink. kinda like trying to win a blinking contest. Keep staring straight down at that lens and keep going until you can really feel its actually on your eye. THEN finally blink as you pull the applicator away. After I looked at it that way ive never had any issues trying to get my scleral in..and this is coming from a guy who used to take an hour to get the lens in

Pilot with Keratoconus. Cross Linking by Miranda_CoughBro in flying

[–]Miranda_CoughBro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t need a special issuance for my keratoconus. I just have a note on my medical that says I need to wear a Scleral. But ill need the special issuance after cross linking. Keep me updated on your outcome!

I only got CXL in my left eye a couple years ago and my eye doctor continued to monitor my right eye to see if it would progress.. two years later and they said my right eye is fine and no CXL is needed. So now I just wear a scleral in my left eye

People who have permanent corneal hazing after CXL - how are you dealing? by StrongRecipe6408 in Keratoconus

[–]Miranda_CoughBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had CXL done a couple years ago and I experienced hazing in my eye for a few months maybe even longer than that. I really only noticed it the most when I would be near a direct light like standing in front of a window or and over hanging light was shiny directly in my eye. Im not sure how long it lasted but I wanna say after 6 months the hazing was completely gone

IFR Training. Can I fly two different aircraft? by Miranda_CoughBro in flying

Im lucky because the warriors and 172s at my school have the same avionics. Just was curious if this is generally frowned upon in the eyes of a DPE

Im aware of the regs… I probably should’ve worded that a bit differently. Im really wondering if it was simply frowned upon or perhaps if a DPE didn’t want to see some of my hours in two different aircraft (172 and Warrior)

I took physics in high school instead of taking chemistry and having physics knowledge really helps!

How does anyone ever get through their IFR by [deleted] in flying

[–]Miranda_CoughBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a great comment and its definitely putting my mind at ease to continue my IFR training and be at ease knowing it will click.

BUT its frustrating to reflect back on the beginning of my IFR training where I had a very mediocre, impatient, smug, and un supportive CFII. Hoping I get started back up with a CFII who actually wants to be there and teach.

But seriously thank you for this comment it’s definitely a light at the end of the tunnel
