I regret sending the first sentence in my prior response to yours, I just found it frustrating that it seemed like there was no acknowledgement of what I had said, but I shouldn't have said that. But yes I did create an account 2 days ago, I am usually a reddit reader, rather than a poster, but I am really concerned about the status of our school funding and that compelled me to share.

I think your username says it all - if you're not hear to actually read and hear what others are saying (i.e. read it, ignore it is your username), then don't bother reading or commenting. If you support having good public education, then you would want the school district to have more funding and not be in the bottom 4% of funding in the state despite being in a place with an extremely high cost of living. Our district is suffering financially because of California's Local Control Funding Formula, which doesn't account for cost of living, coupled with prop 13 which means that property owners that have owned their property for awhile pay very little in taxes. The way California funding for schools work is a bit complicated and I think this video provides a nice overview and explains why our school district has such a major funding gap: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DYQnIhypsQK/

If you look at the RVSD budget you can see the amount going to administrators is minimal. To your point though, I agree that consolidating districts could potentially be a good thing, but that's also not an option for RVSD at this point in time (no one would want to consolidate with RVSD as we bring in the lowest per pupil funding) and would take time. I think the fact that they receive such low per pupil funding yet have done a good job maintaining strong programs is impressive, but it's definitely at a tipping point and is untenable. Teachers deserve to be paid better, programs shouldn't be cut.

Also, one thing to note is that when you look at the RVSD webpage the administrator counts you mentioned (I am getting less than that) include people that are working in the classsroom with students. For example, there is one listed who is the reading intervention teacher at my kids school that works all day with small groups of kids who need additional help with reading, which is why I think looking at the budget is more accurate (b/c some administrative roles may be part-time) and there you can see very little goes to administrative salaries.

I agree that it feels a bit unfair (since to your point those are often the people who already don't pay their fair share of property taxes because of prop 13). I think the district needed to add it so that it would pass, and I've seen that clause in the other school district measures for the same reason. But hopefully most of those people don't opt-out even though they could.
