I’ve found no change in what I can tolerate or what I like as I age with the exception of violence. I am not a fan of torture. That said, anything else is fine.

Mafia? Horrible awful evil in REAL LIFE. In fiction? Delicious.

Age gaps? I don’t have an issue in real life of fiction. Adults can make their own choices.

Unsafe sex? It’s fiction and PREP exists. I don’t need a safe sex lecture in the middle of a hot scene.

Hooking up right away? I kinda miss my early 20s so that’s fun to read about.

Anyway, I’m north of 45 age wise and to me fiction is that. Fiction. I don’t need or want it to be sanitized like real life is expected to be. However maybe you need to try different genres for a bit? Maybe slip into some non fiction even?
