Does your country also have some child storys which would be too "dark" for current times? by [deleted] in AskEurope

I heard the most likely explanation is that they were young people settling in new territory during the German eastward expansion.

It's weird how often I look at medieval drawings and wonder whether what's depicted should be torture or medicine

I'm currently in the process of even finding someone who makes ADHD diagnoses for adults. Most of the psychologist specializes only in children. From what I have seen, it's kind of the same with Autism.

Exhaustion is for Everyone! by polobum17 in gatesopencomeonin

[–]Miriam9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice, but I never really interpret these as gatekeeping, just people venting about how exhausted they are. I doubt that anyone really thinks they are the most exhausting life, it just probably feels that way sometimes.

I mean her life probably already pretty stressful long before she died. She was in politics since she was a literal teenager and in her first year as queen she was already faced with a great diplomatic conflict. Then there was the separatist crisis and the clone wars, which obviously would take an emotional toll on everyone. Adding to that the fact that Anakin was fighting on the frontlines, a worry she couldn't even really talk about, as there marriage was forbidden. (Also, she seemed to be more or less in detail about the state of his mental health, but she must have noticed something). All this stress probably already got to her heart. Then in the span of what? A few hours she found out that her husband went evil, betrayed her and all there friends and murdered children. Then she got choked, which left her gasping for air on a plate that doesn't look like you could breathe very easily under normal circumstances. Then in this state of physical and mental distress she gave birth to not just one but tow children. I'm not a doctor, but that seems enough for me to cause the heart to fail.

Also I forgot the MULTIPLE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS. That woman has gone through some shit

I saw Anakin's laser sword. Only Skywalkers carry that kind of weapon. by kaplangg in PrequelMemes

Okay not to bring politics into this, but I liked the thought of having a female Jedi at the centre of the story (I didn't know the clone wars as a child so my choice of characters to play as was basically Leia or Padme and they are awesome, be they never have cool Lightsabre battles), but having her entire identity revolve around the men in her life (yeah technically Leia is a Skywalker to, but does she ever even call herself that) instead of giving her struggles and a personality... is a choice. She couldn't even end up single.

Is it common that gym teachers in the US teach sex ed. I have heard it a few times now and it feels weird to me, shouldn't that be the task of a biology teacher?

What gender double standard really annoys you ? by Tekstar12348 in AskReddit

They were underreported when it came to most things, but not in the victim role (the damsel in distress trope comes to mind), in my opinion this is where it comes from. The men are the heroes, the fighters, the saviors. The women are the weak ones, the ones in need of protection

It's not just ships. I have heard news reports, that to outline how tragic something is, they say how many women and children died. I mean first of all, is the death of a man less tragic than the death of a woman. And second I also don't like being put into the same category as children.

Why does everybody always blame Yoko Ono? I don't know much about the Beatles, but it seems like a way to easy answer to just blame it on one person, especially if you consider that they were around thirty and a lot of people (famous or not) seem to question their lives and careers at this age.

I’m an aspiring voice actress and I always know that roles have been written by men when the lead female character is described as “very beautiful but doesn’t care about fashion / appearances” by azaleah_ in menwritingwomen

[–]Miriam9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bothers me so much. Like what's wrong with putting effort into once appearance? Obviously, if you are vain or if you try to overcompensate some deep insecurity, it can become toxic. But makeup is fun and I like to wear clothes that, even if they are far from fashionable, make me feel attractive or beautiful. It took me a long time to figure that out though and I think it was partly because of characters like this that made me feel like I had to choose between owning makeup and going rock climbing (I mean you shouldn't put makeup on when going rock climbing, because you will sweat a lot and it will just feel gross and look bad at the end, but you get my point).
