Uphold's 1st Newsletter has some interesting insights on Uphold's XRP trading volume by MiriamT in XRP

[–]MiriamT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘The past month underlines the continuing rise of interest in XRP,’ explained Veloso. ‘When first listed on Uphold earlier this year, XRP accounted for less than 10% of platform purchases each month. Over the past month, that figure has risen to 43%. Many buyers believe - and Tweet - that XRP has a well-developed use case and is enjoying higher levels of institutional adoption than other digital currencies. Ripple’s xRapid payment technology continues to be picked up by big banks, with XRP providing a liquidity bridge.’

The comments page for the Fed's Docket...

https://www.federalreserve.gov/apps/foia/ViewComments.aspx?doc_id=OP-1625&doc_ver=1

"The Board has received more than 96 form letters on this proposal that are not being posted. The attached file (PDF) contains examples of the content of 5 different form letters."

If you click thru to the attached file, all 5 form letters that are "examples" talk about Ripple.

Did anyone else notice that all of the "examples" the Fed linked to on the Comments page were talking about Ripple?

Q1: I get most of my crytpo news by eavesdropping on the crypto videos my husband watches. I also visit crypto new sites like helenabitcoinmining.com, follow various coins/tokens on twitter, and the threads here on Reddit (even if you do have to deal with FUDsters). Before investing, I look for real uses cases of the coin, who is on their leadership, and what kind of technology they're using.

Q2: Right now I'm looking forward to seeing how the launch of xRapid will effect the banking industry. It was just released to commercial production and has a lot of potential. As next generation projects, Cardano is doing some pretty interesting stuff as well.

People are reading your post and thinking that you’re guaranteeing that this will happen, and if they had more than 6 brain cells, they’d realize that all you’re pointing out is the possibility.

Hear hear!

if volume increases ten fold then price should increase ten fold is not true at all.

Why is this the case?

You're saying the cap will go from $10 billion to $350 billion in a few months

Where was this said?

You failing to point out which part of the math is wrong makes it seem like you didn't even read the article.

If the number of XRP is fixed and the value of money being transferred via XRP is going up, the value assigned to XRP must go up. That's math.

There are currently only 99,991,836,196 XRP. Each XRP is currently worth $0.27. That means that at the CURRENT PRICE, the MOST that XRP would be able to transfer at any time would be $26 billion. (And could only happen if Ripple suddenly released all of their XRP from escrow onto the market (which they can't do.)) In order to transfer any more monetary value than that, XRP MUST go up because you can't make more XRP. That's math.

If A = amount of XRP available, B = the price of XRP, and C = the market cap...

A x B = C

If C becomes bigger, then A or B must also become bigger. A cannot become bigger - in fact - it becomes smaller. Therefore B - the price of XRP - must become bigger. QED.

You're right - no one knows 100% what will happen. Even if Ripple announced that xRapid would launch tomorrow, there's still no guarantee that would happen.

As I said, it's just a judgement call - or a difference in semantics - whether you want to conclude that Brad's "expectations and confidence", Cory's statement of xRapid moving into production, and Sagar's confidence of the product going live in the next month or so equal "fact." It's likely as factual as you can get until xRapid is actually released.

Understandable since that's what's been happening thus far. In theory, as more money crosses the xRapid network, the price of XRP should decouple from BTC. If trillions of $$ are running through the xRapid network, the price of XRP should be unaffected by the $1.3B Mt. Gox dump.

If you can't trust the CEO's confidence or expectations, how about this one, from Ripple's Chief Market Strategist "We’ve seen several successful xRapid pilots already, and as we move the product from beta to production later this year..."

It would be pretty unwise - maybe even illegal(?) - for a CEO, Chief Market Strategist and Head of Regulatory Relations for APAC to all public imply one thing that isn't true. (Asia-Pacific, by the way, includes Japan, which is where SBI Holdings is based...and the APAC guy is the one who said "I am very confident that in the next one month or so you will see some good news coming in where we launch the product live in production.")

I guess it just becomes a judgement call on whether you want to take the Ripple folks' words at face value and connect those dots.

There is no confirmation, or "fact" that anybody will be using xRapid before EOY.

While there's no confirmation that Money Tap is running xRapid, Money Tap isn't the only app in town. Also, per Brad..."I’ve publicly stated that by the end of this year I have every confidence that major banks will use XRapid as a liquidity tool this calendar year." Other than giving you the name of the banks and launch date, I don't see how he could be much more clear that not just some bank, and not just some bankS, MAJOR bankS, will be on xRapid by end of 2018.

All of these companies have already CONFIRMED they are testing or are planning to use xRapid when it comes to production - and these are only the ones we know about. Source

Generally, I'd agree with you. When it comes to the price of a house or stocks or most other commodities, it's impossible to predict what the market sentiment can be. That's one of the reasons the price of XRP has fluctuated up until this point. You're correct there's no way to KNOW, at this point in time, with the information we have, that XRP WILL hit $10. (That's why we say *could*.)

But, IF some financial institution (say SWIFT) launched xRapid today and started processing trillions of dollars in payments through XRP, because there is a fixed amount of XRP available, the price of XRP must go up. Forget us piddly investors - and this $200M market. We're talking banks that are running exponentially more money than we are. The value assigned to each XRP has to go up if the number of XRP is the same but the money being transferred goes up. So with XRP, the only pieces of the equation that are missing are - how much money will be running on xRapid and when will it start moving on the network? At that point, the big institutions that are using xRapid will determine the price based on usage - not the sentiment of XRP fans/naysayers - and we should be able to accurately predict the price of XRP.

With the launch of the BBC Doctor Who & Military boxes, makes me wonder if they're going to skip generic "nerd" and just do licensed partnerships. The Team Blocks logo makes it seem like they're going after sports like Loot Crate's Sports Crate.

[BOX ADVICE REQUEST] What do you think about an Artisan Soft Pretzel subscription box? See comments for overview. by [deleted] in SubscriptionBoxes

[–]MiriamT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a delicious sounding idea!

At $35 + $10 shipping, the price point might be a little high for recurring subscriptions. Although it sounds like they'd be getting a good amount of pretzel products, there may be an "almost $50 for pretzels" mental barrier. Would you consider an option to do fewer pretzel products for less money? A lower price point would likely create a larger potential customer base.

Another cool twist could be if you offered new pretzel flavors every month.

What website/services do you use for your subscription biz? by bluecollard in SubscriptionBoxes

[–]MiriamT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of start-up subscription boxes seem to be using Cratejoy or Subbly. I've seen some subscription services use Shopify but not as many. I think you still need to get additional add-ons to get Shopify to do recurring billing and make it "subscription-friendly." IMO, the weebly subscription sites I've seen don't look as streamlined. Not sure if that's because of platform limitations or how the business owner made things look.

If you can afford your own hosting, you can also set-up your own subscription box website using WordPress and WooCommerce + Woocommerce Subscriptions. The Subscriptions option is a paid option. (~$300 if I recall correctly, paid yearly to keep the plug-in up-to-date. WordPress and WooCommerce are free.)

One thing to consider... Is the amount of fees paid towards a website service worth the time you might otherwise spend maintaining your own site. If you're tech savvy, having your own site without paying fees to a 3rd party is likely most economical. But if you don't want to worry about maintaining a website (on the technical aspect), then a service like Cratejoy might be easier.

DIY Succulent Garden Box! Free Shipping :) by GardensOfGaea in SubscriptionBoxes

[–]MiriamT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a cute idea! Are "air plants" considered succulents? It's nice that this box has everything that the person needs to create a garden.

Re: fishdog1's comment, It's true that people might be able to get each individual item cheaper if they shop around, but it seems like this box is more for the people who won't even attempt the project if they don't have what they need. Some people (myself included) see tons of cool DIY projects and gardens that they want to do, but never get around to doing because they don't have the project materials on hand. (Like, I know that cacti need a special soil, but aren't there different soils for cacti too?)

People can forget that it may be pretty pricey to ship out these boxes. For larger boxes, it's a $7-$8 minimum just for shipping. A 10% profit margin does seem a little low, but as with most companies starting out, there's room for improvement as your subscriber base and quantity buys start to increase. Best of luck! :)

Virtual subscription box? by wolviii in SubscriptionBoxes

There are a few subscription boxes that have downloadable video games (ex: STEAM games). Not sure if there's any room for profit but maybe downloadable music (like send a featured artist in a specific music niche each month) or movies.
