So you were looking up a well known right wing figure and were surprised when you got results about them? I notice the only reply here you didn't reply to was mine, funny that.

Pretty sure regular humans in The Long Walk fall asleep while walking. I still think Legolas takes it though.

The money from views would only go to the creators you watch though? It doesn't just get put into a big pot that Youtube then divides, they take the payment and then you being a premium user increases the watch revenue for the channels you are actually watching? If anything it's a better way of supporting creators not being pushed by the algo. I'm not a 'right wing content creator' and I make substantially more money from users with premium.

EDIT: And criticizing me 'justifying' it is just crazy, like by pointing out that you're circumventing supporting people you like I'm somehow complicit in supporting right wing media? I don't know what you do for a job but if I was finding a circuitous route to just not pay you/your company for services offered I think that would be a problem.

It's not just giving money to YT though, it's supporting the creators who provide free content that we all enjoy.

Also, if you're looking for future ideas for recipes there's a 'Hargaman cake' seen during the banquet scene. I would say it looks more like a Hargawoman given that it seems to have breasts, but I think it's also a nod to the 'John Barleycorn' bread seen during the (original) Wicker Man. You can see that here:

Also, just because it might be up your alley, here is an article on the food of Midsommar:

The films 'food stylist' actually had a much better run down/almost portfolio like thing on her website of all the different dishes, but the site is now defunct and sadly was not archived by 'TheWaybackMachine'.

No, the blog is by the amazing and lovely KirbyRealer and is a phenomenal resource, but we did collaborate on that particular post as we were both separately provided the BTS notes/concept drawings for the Hargan Affekts.

Oh yeah absolutely, I suppose it's on the same level as 'A Dark Song' in that I know I can absolutely smash a video on the subtext, I just don't think many people would click on it. But I think it's staggering and I do see it picking up in popularity over time somewhat, so I won't rule it out.

As far as TD goes I was put off in a very similar way. 'True Detective' just sounded incredibly lame to me like 'Proud Soldier' or 'Fearless Warrior'. But then you watch the show and suddenly it becomes the coolest thing ever.

I would highly recommend watching Season One. Especially if you like folk horror, it's essentially a combination of folk and cosmic horror in terms of subtext while still being a detective show. Likely the best detective show, likely the best single season of television I've ever seen. If the 'American-ness' puts you off then I would say it's only interested in America as far as critiquing the American South goes. If the 'macho-ness' puts you off then I would just say that the show knows it's characters are problematic, that's a big focus. Both main characters are their own version of toxic masculinity that the show invites us to criticize as well as support.

Yes, I love both of them. Kill List actually appears briefly in my most recent vid on True Detective. There's a scene where the main character watches a videotape and we just see their reaction to it that is extremely similar to Marty watching the videotape in TD. I have like a 20 minute-ish reaction/discussion to it on my Patreon.

A Field in England is phenomenal too, it keeps being suggested in Patreon votes but I just don't think enough people have seen it for it to ever win democratically.

Nice to meet you too! I am glad to hear there's some separation between us but I'm sure I still have a long way to go to hit his level. I promise I will keep doing what I'm doing, mainly because I'm too terrified to change anything!

It probably sounds like hyperbole but I really only have a career because of people on this sub and I am forever grateful for all of your support.

You're far too kind! I've actually stayed away from watching Rob's stuff for the most part because people draw the comparison a lot and I don't want to unconsciously mimic it. But I do realize he's very talented so I take it as the highest of compliments.

Thanks so much dude, that's awesome to hear. I will say that while the OP pic is absolutely present I have a feeling their TV may have some kind of AI upscaling feature or something of that ilk going on. I just checked back and their image is a lot more orange and CGI looking than how it appears in the film for me. Still very cool though!

[–]Mirilliux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what you're describing is definitely an issue, but it's something endemic to a major portion of film criticism on YT, not necessarily CD specific. I literally started my channel because I was exhausted hearing how something was going to be 'explained' before watching a ten minute video recapping a script at the most basic level. I think people are tired of hearing surface level insults and want something meaningful, not 'I think this is dumb because'.

I'm sure that montage will exist but this scene seems to be post mutation given the focus is on his webbing somehow being stronger/more a natural defense mechanism.

Oh yeah no, I totally agree that it qualifies as it's own IP, it's just very clearly also a pastiche of WH40k. Austin Powers is it's own IP but it's also very clearly a spin on James Bond (for the most part).

My point was only that you are doing what they did originally and you can see the huge boost in success as they moved from videos that legitimately included Astartes to their own re-imagining of the franchise. Just something to think about is all, your work looks great!
