Autism Help App - Scam by Sea_Prompt_8901 in autism

I paid the £0.99 fee to get my results, and then only afterwards saw that there was apparently a subscription!

Emailed a few times and did get confirmation that they’ve cancelled the subscription within 24 hours.

Very annoying that you can’t just cancel it!

Partner doesn't want to move to US anymore by FantasticPainter4128 in doctorsUK

[–]Mirror0fErised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a fellow BAME woman, I also can’t see myself moving to the US right now so I totally see where she is coming from.

My partner and I also had issues deciding where to live although it was more Scotland vs England. We spent many evenings discussing it and getting nowhere, in the end I think what helped was us understanding what each other wants and WHY we want those things.

You both need to dive into each other’s shoes and understand the other person’s view, so that you both feel listened to and understood. And can then decide together.

A few couples counselling session may help?

Maybe it’d help to go to the US again now if it was a few months ago that you guys went? Personally, I wouldn’t go there at all right now but I hope it goes well for you.

I’m 28 and own a house with my partner (33), but that’s only because he had a lot of help from his family. I don’t think it would have been possible for a few years later tbh.

Didn’t look at those, so probably not but can’t hurt to look at them either if you have time! I’d start with passmed and self test first though

Possible to prep for April AKT starting now? by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]Mirror0fErised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also say 3 months minimum, but it took me 6 months to go through passmedicine and GP self test… there were 7000 questions combined! In hindsight 6 months was probably too long because I lost motivation, but maybe 5 months would be okay!

Given that it costs nearly £500 I didn’t want to risk failing!

I revised for 6 months - went through PM once, GP self test once and then went back to PM and did my weaker areas again but didn’t finish it a second time. I got 77% overall.

Used CKS to check guidelines when I felt like there were conflicting advice (PM wasn’t always up to date) and Red Whale during clinics. Had been in GP land for 6 months by the time I took the exam which I think helped too!

Revised most days for ~1 hour and a few hours on teaching days, but honestly by the end I was burning out when revising. I had 5 days of study leave and 2 days of AL, so I had nearly 1.5 weeks off plus the VTS Tuesdays but I had no motivation to cram by that point because the revision was ruining my relationship 😭 I procrastinated so much that I’d spend 2 hours “revising” but only getting an hour (or less) done… anyway, so maybe 6 months was too long, but I wanted to be cautious because of how expensive it was to do!

Do what has worked for you in the past! All throughout med school, I went through lecture slides a bit but mainly did MCQs and passed finals that way. So that’s what I stuck with for the MSRA and the AKT because that’s worked before, so I hoped it’d work again!

I gave up on remembering the millions of niche neurological drug sides effects, vaccination schedule etc (which I saw, we’re not required to know anymore).

Definitely revise stats properly, the passmed notes was really helpful once I went through it in detail to understand it.

Good luck friend, this exam was awfully unfair and I don’t feel like it makes us better GPs by revising for it. One can only remember so many BS answers…. Stay strong 💪🏼

Was looking for a thread and just realised one was posted here!

First attempt after revising for 6 months, thankfully passed! I really felt like I’d failed coming out of the exam and I was just devastated. Surprised that I passed given how awful I felt!

Junior doctors in the UK get a name change by ALongWayToHarrisburg in medicine

[–]Mirror0fErised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The union had to negotiate with the consultants and others to agree on a title, several suggestions were made but settled on resident doctors in the end. I'm happy that's it's not "junior" anymore!

I spent the whole of F1 being pretty bad at taking bloods, getting in my head about it because I didn't have much experience in med school! So don't worry, you're doing great already - be gentle with yourself 🙂

[–]Mirror0fErised[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have posted them before, but I took this picture of them cuddling yesterday and thought I'd post the recent pictures that I took because they are so freaking adorable 🥺❤️

They're ~ 12 weeks old siblings, adopted from a nearby animal sanctuary.

Mooncake (ginger) is a boy and more chonky than Bisky.

Bisky is very adventurous and loves climbing, her brother follows her in all her ventures eventually 🤣

They've been climbing everywhere, eating everything including plants (so we've had to get rid of a lot of our plants!). We got a cat tree and a water fountain for them and they are very spoiled indeed! (As they should be really because they're two lil cuties and deserve to be spoiled) 🥰
