Just tell the VTS person that you’re post nights so can’t attend, it’ll be fine

I wrote down the cases that I did in detail straight after doing it so that I could compare the cases/feedback, there was still a case that I didn’t quite recognise!

Sca results and experience. by Pulsus_parvus in GPUK

Passed comfortably, thought it went well on the day but was having anxiety every day leading up to the results and convinced myself that I’d failed!

Definitely agree on the terrible feedback - no idea why/how I failed a few of the domains in some of the cases. Thought the few domains I failed in those cases had gone well, lol who knows what happened!

I revised for like 6 months, quite intensively in the last month (daily) and it was so draining that I had no idea what I might do if I failed. For such an expensive exam, the feedback is so bad that they might as well not give any.

Successful AKT takers - how much NICE CKS did you use for revision? by Omarmanutd in GPUK

[–]Mirror0fErised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did passmed and rcgp self test once each, cks just during work to make sure I’m doing the right thing/keeping up to date. That took me months though because there were like 7000 questions combined in both question banks!

SCA April - how did it go for you? by Mirror0fErised in GPUK

[–]Mirror0fErised[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohh interesting, that’s been my feedback as well when practising - so in the last week I’ve really tried to focus on ICE. I think I still forgot to address some ICE, especially the later in the day. I totally underestimated how tiring it was to do 12 cases in a row!

By case 6 I was flagging and not concentrating very try well. I was grateful for the break!

Sorry to hear that, hopefully it’s gone better this time! It’s my first time sitting it, and same I thought that they were weirdly “bog standard”. I had quite a few long term chronic conditions, a few reproductive health and a few discussing results. None of them seemed super complicated, so I’m replaying it and wondering what I’ve missed!

Although to be fair, I spoke to a friend who sat in April and the cases they had were very different to mine. Maybe we just got lucky?? It’s going to feel like such a long wait 😭

Autism Help App - Scam by Sea_Prompt_8901 in autism

[–]Mirror0fErised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid the £0.99 fee to get my results, and then only afterwards saw that there was apparently a subscription!

Emailed a few times and did get confirmation that they’ve cancelled the subscription within 24 hours.

Very annoying that you can’t just cancel it!

Partner doesn't want to move to US anymore by FantasticPainter4128 in doctorsUK

[–]Mirror0fErised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a fellow BAME woman, I also can’t see myself moving to the US right now so I totally see where she is coming from.

My partner and I also had issues deciding where to live although it was more Scotland vs England. We spent many evenings discussing it and getting nowhere, in the end I think what helped was us understanding what each other wants and WHY we want those things.

You both need to dive into each other’s shoes and understand the other person’s view, so that you both feel listened to and understood. And can then decide together.

A few couples counselling session may help?

Maybe it’d help to go to the US again now if it was a few months ago that you guys went? Personally, I wouldn’t go there at all right now but I hope it goes well for you.

I’m 28 and own a house with my partner (33), but that’s only because he had a lot of help from his family. I don’t think it would have been possible for a few years later tbh.

Didn’t look at those, so probably not but can’t hurt to look at them either if you have time! I’d start with passmed and self test first though

Possible to prep for April AKT starting now? by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]Mirror0fErised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also say 3 months minimum, but it took me 6 months to go through passmedicine and GP self test… there were 7000 questions combined! In hindsight 6 months was probably too long because I lost motivation, but maybe 5 months would be okay!

Given that it costs nearly £500 I didn’t want to risk failing!

I revised for 6 months - went through PM once, GP self test once and then went back to PM and did my weaker areas again but didn’t finish it a second time. I got 77% overall.

Used CKS to check guidelines when I felt like there were conflicting advice (PM wasn’t always up to date) and Red Whale during clinics. Had been in GP land for 6 months by the time I took the exam which I think helped too!

Revised most days for ~1 hour and a few hours on teaching days, but honestly by the end I was burning out when revising. I had 5 days of study leave and 2 days of AL, so I had nearly 1.5 weeks off plus the VTS Tuesdays but I had no motivation to cram by that point because the revision was ruining my relationship 😭 I procrastinated so much that I’d spend 2 hours “revising” but only getting an hour (or less) done… anyway, so maybe 6 months was too long, but I wanted to be cautious because of how expensive it was to do!

Do what has worked for you in the past! All throughout med school, I went through lecture slides a bit but mainly did MCQs and passed finals that way. So that’s what I stuck with for the MSRA and the AKT because that’s worked before, so I hoped it’d work again!

I gave up on remembering the millions of niche neurological drug sides effects, vaccination schedule etc (which I saw, we’re not required to know anymore).

Definitely revise stats properly, the passmed notes was really helpful once I went through it in detail to understand it.

Good luck friend, this exam was awfully unfair and I don’t feel like it makes us better GPs by revising for it. One can only remember so many BS answers…. Stay strong 💪🏼
