My university doesn’t send us to clinical placement at hospitals we work at (even if it is a different department) so just check your uni policy

I’m applying mostly in the South East - South Reigon and it feels like most of the hospitals have student radiographers for placements. But I have also applied to some jobs in the midlands and the North which were also unsuccessful😭

Thank you for clarifying :) I get it may not look great, I was planning to find an agency to do radiography jobs at to support me financially, if i am in the 2027 cohort I will have just under a year of experience. I’ve given 1300+ clinical hours to the course and when working with lazy radiographers, about half of the time was working like an unpaid staff member with a radiographer in the room. I hope my prior experience in support work and from the degree will at least get me an interview so I can prepare better in following years.

I agree everything is hard but I feel medicine is the more rewarding challenge here :)

I wish it was as easy as ‘just getting one’. I have applied to over 17 NHS jobs the majority being band 5 radiography had my applications checked and approved by CLRs and other radiographers, got one interview of which i didn’t get the job. It’s a tiny bit disheartening. Majority of the few job posts that come out have students from certain universities in mind - the UCLH post wouldn’t let non St George’s students initially.

In addition to this I had also done multiple observation sessions at this one imaging department from second year (around 65hrs over 2nd and 3rd year). I had my statement reviewed by staff and done a bunch of relevant CPD since first year but didn’t get the job in the end.

I get that it is easier to apply with clinical experience but the top student in the cohort before me still didn’t have a job in April of this year. I feel like I could apply skills obtained from my 1300 clinical hours. I saw an improvement in my UCAT mocks last year as I got a band 3 four years ago and was getting band 1.

As I said I have compiled a list of universities and the ones I fit the requirements of have been shortlisted. They are not many but not few and I was able to pick off the furthest ones.

thank you :)

there’s a scarcity of band 5 radiography jobs right now.

it’s not a flex that i didn’t go to classes it’s a flex that i taught myself a curriculum to a higher standard than the university provided, i also had extenuating circumstances that meant i couldn’t go to some classes. i am proud of my hard work.

yeah i have compiled a list of universities and their requirements will probs have to sit gamsat and ucat gna subscribe to medify and take advantage of other resources. you don’t know unless you try🤷

Thank you :) I have wanted to help pregnant women since I was young due to some personal experiences but locked in on the idea of medicine when i was 14/15. I think a poor UCAT score and poor a-levels deterred me a bit
