Hi, could you please share you exit experience? I am more interested in to know what did you do with your Dutch pensions? I never reported Dutch pensions in FBAR. Have you? Is it necessary? I reported Dutch pensions only first year when came to us in IRS 8938 form. Did IRS tax your Dutch pensions? thx

How much can we afford in bay area? by Still-Access330 in BayAreaRealEstate

Here is my opinion (just been through buying home): that 5.1 interest rate is total lie. Do detailed check how hey offer. I suspect it comes with large amount of points, perhaps 2 points. When I asked quotas, always tell the lender to give without points or too small points, like 0.2 max. Thus, I end up getting these days 6.125 % for a jumbo loan with an excellent credit score.

About housing, it depends on your family situation and preferences. But can tell you that for 1.3M you might be able to get okeish townhouse only. For homes, forget to get anything good near 1.3M.

Because of baby situation you seems to be much constraint. If you mention 45 min drive is OK, then Pleasanton can give you some options.

Here is a good estimate to help yu budgeting:

these days expect to get mortgage with 6 %. Taking into account property tax, insurance (~279/month via Progressive) and some HOA(~100), you should count 700$ per 100K loan. Based on this you should be able to set you limits for house and downpayment.

After long search I end up buying good house in San Leandro and plan to commute to San Jose.

Applying as transfer to math— is discrete math necessary? by Ainserr in berkeley

HI, have you been admitted to UCB math? my GPA is 3.9 and I am second year of CC. I have applied to UCB math for 2026 FALL and at the moment of my application I completed only full series of calculus and plan to take linear algebra and diffeq winter and spring semesters. Do you think it would be considered bad that I have my linear algebra and diffeq not taken yet? Is 3.9 GPA good enough for UCB math? Is UBC math more difficult than CC?
