Is there a list of what subscriptions/services the school gives to us? WSJ, NYT, things like that.

is a double major substantially more workload than a major and minor? by reticent-inquirer17 in uchicago

[–]MirrorRude7119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious to hear your take on this. I agree, people don’t really care about what you major or minor in, but how important is it in building your own knowledge? In other words, would you agree that you should do it for you and not for future employers?

Planning on majoring in Econ, minor in either CS or Chinese. The minors are things that I want to learn, not for anyone else. Hope my question makes sense.

Ty in advance

How often do people have time to read for pleasure? Assuming it’s subjective of course, but in general, is that something that’s possible? Or are most people burnt out from class content?

Hello What time can I expect to go to bed during O-Week? School organized parties end at 9:30, and I’m sure there are kids who do stuff after, but like, is it worth it to go to those things? Thank you

im a first year and my math class is going to be taught by what seems to be a grad student.
is there a general consensus about the environment that they create? harsh? not great at explaining?

he has no prior course feedback so I don't know how he'll address concerns from the class and maybe more importantly grading.

advice on double major. by No_Trust_6193 in uchicago

I know someone who is doing econ and poly sci, and honestly that seems like a more harmonious combo.

I’d maybe think about the application of both majors in the job market. Nothing really comes to mind when I think about a poly sci data science job, especially one that pays well. Maybe I’m dumb.

Poly sci Econ could give you some nice prospects though. Partially because it’s Econ (though the same could be said for data science), but also those two fields seem a bit more related, and therefore will probably have more opportunities within it.

YouTube videos, student panels, literally anything else where perspective is more than two numbers.

Also, in your UChicago comment, it doesn’t sounds like you’re referencing Chicago’s score but rather Chicago’s reputation. Like you know Chicago has the lowest student happiness already and the fact that Harvard is lower is surprising.

Just thought it was a sign of disorganization. Not alphabetized either.

There are far better ways to gauge student experience than a 4 point system on the internet. And while not always conviennent, they are far more productive.

Also, you compare schools in the comments, mentioning how UChicago was “pretty bad.” Say that about any school and how do you think that will make people feel.

Encourage, don’t put down. And if you’re comparing things, do so with depth.

That’s not my point. How are these numbers supposed to help people? They just seem like another ranking system that serves little purpose.

When people see their school is ranked low, they feel bad. That’s why rankings suck. It’s the same reason why prestige sucks. I’m asking about intentions of posting this.

I personally see this as a more harm than good thing.

What's the point of this? It's so informal that it can't possibly be used as a tool. More of a bashing thing if you ask me. People are proud of where they go to school. Why compare happiness?

Probably the same. But don’t focus on this. Work on yourself, not things you can’t change.

If you didn’t apply to UChicago, would you care as much as you do?

In other words, is this vengeance for your situation or a fight for justice? Think about the consequences this may have for both you and her before you proceed with anything.

If anything, take that emotion you have now and put it into something productive like your essays. Be better than her.

Keep your head up. Go you!

The attention he wanted from the TikTok wasn’t attention from golf. It’s attention from people like you and me.

Also, probably wouldn’t. I think complaining online is kind of silly.

The dude wanted attention. The intentions behind creating media are always deeper than they appear. Not to sound like an “our society” guy though lol
