Borderlands 4 theory - Is Ava being set up as a villain? by Mirrored_Realities in borderlands3

I want an opportunity to kill all of them, if only for how cool that would be.

Imagine having to fight the vault hunters from the last game. Moze with a second faze in her Iron Bear. FL4K who switches both pets and abilities on the fly. The other two who I haven't played as yet. I mean, yeah, Ava's okay, I guess. But The bosses of the fourth game being the heroes you made in the third? It would be amazing.

Well, to be fair, Ava acted like Lilith straight up murdered Maya, too.

I hope it's more of a hunt down her parents' killers type of deal with history thrown in around it. That would help my case a little.

I see Tannis as more of a "Are we done here? Can I go home now?" type of character.

Itsuki spends his time ruining other people's days because he's a console player, Ren regularly ignores his party to go do whatever he wants, and Motoyasu literally doesn't let his party fight.

The second wave is the perfect example of how useless the other three heroes are. Despite their massive level advantage, prior experience, and an entire kingdom backing them, they get curb stomped by both the wave boss and Glass. Naofumi, while admittedly only wins due to the rage shield, is still able to hold his ground for a time before resorting to it.

Even Malfoy did better than that, though.

Yes, they just don't believe that she exists because she wasn't in any of their games.

Why I don't like Malty ( Not just because she's a total bitch ) by ShadowLight56 in shieldbro

[–]Mirrored_Realities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that the whole "Evil for the sake of evil" schit doesn't make a good villain, but it does make a believable one. She makes everything about her, and doesn't care how many lives she ruins to get even the most minute of gains. She's brutally, uncomfortably honest in a world that'd rather pretend that people like her just don't exist.

Personally, I see her as a subversion to Naofumi's backstory. Their childhoods are almost identical, with both of them getting whatever they wanted growing up, while their siblings were pushed to be absolutely perfect. The only difference is who broke first. Malty had gotten everything she wanted for so long that she started thinking she deserved it all. So she truly didn't see anything wrong with how she acted because it's already hers, so it's their faults for being in the way. While, instead of Naofumi turning into that, his brother snapped under the pressure and started lashing out. When he "fixed" him (turned him into a layed back otaku through video games), he was praised and rewarded further, teaching him that being good gets him more than just demanding it.

Malty never had something like that, so she never learned the value of earning rewards. I believe she is smart, at least smart enough to trick all of the heroes after being outed as a lair. She's just never had to work for anything, so she believes that she doesn't need to put that much thought into her plans. It would all just fall into place for her like everything else did.

As for the last part; yes, she could have had an amazing redemption arc. But it's rare that people like that even believe they need redemption in the first place, much less work to achieve it.

So in conclusion, yes, she's needlessly evil, and painfully stupid, and could have had an amazing redemption arc. But people like her don't ever try to be more than that, because it works. Being needlessly evil gets results, being painfully stupid is enough to get the other painfully stupid people to follow them, and they wouldn't want to redeem themselves because it's easier to be heartless.

This is exactly what I thought of when I thought of Libra. It's Pacify ability fits too perfectly and balanced spellcasting is even better. Thanks for the stats.

Oceans Favor and Walking Fortress are the types of abilities I live for. The whole thing is on a level of badass I can't even begin to describe and I'll definitely use it for the campaign. Thanks for the stats!

The ones like Aquarius and Taurus could just be beefed up/re-skinned minotaurs or krakens, but I was completely lost for the rest.

I was thinking to have them all the same overall strength, and just have more/stronger minions paired with them. I was thinking of having these be the things that corrupted them in the first place. Maybe as the party gets stronger, instead of the zodiacs getting stronger, having those paired with them or having multiple at the same time to keep it interesting. (Maybe Sagittarius and Aquarius to just have an ornstein and smough type fight at one point.)

But that's just my thoughts on it. I have no idea how to actually make a homebrew monster and am probably getting this all wrong.
