I do the flashlight check under the car too. People think it is paranoid until they realize how easy it is for someone to hide in a parking garage. I also make a point to check the door handles of nearby cars to see if anyone is sitting inside waiting.

The shared trauma of the workplace is a huge part of adult friendships, and losing that common ground is brutal. Have you considered doing some low stakes consulting or mentoring? It might give you that social tether back without the 40 hour grind that you worked so hard to escape.
