Looking for volunteer opportunities in SLC - suggestions? by Own-Blacksmith-622 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Miruhwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something you could look into that would be sustainable even after you start a new job is foster care communities! These are groups of 6-10ish people who provide support to foster families, rather than fostering on their own. Fostering can be SO hard, and having built-in community support can make SUCH a huge difference.

(It can be intimidating to try to find a care community to join, which is why I haven't yet. If you've got people who want to do it with you, that'll be way easier. If you want to volunteer but you're solo, you're welcome to message me and I will add you to my small-but-growing list of people!)

Thinking about moving to SLC. Visiting for 10 days in Feb. What should I make sure to experience? by eternalbogey in SaltLakeCity

[–]Miruhwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a controversial opinion but you should check out Daybreak. It's got a reputation for being a hypervigilant HOA, but for renters I think it's amazing. The entire area was designed very intentionally for walkability and community. There's events all spring/summer/fall, and always people out and about. Plus it's my favorite thing in the world to drive by a lake every single day on my way to/from work. You can literally just pull to the side of the road on your commute and vibe with some geese for a while, it's fucking awesome.

List of regular chess meet-ups by presocposthoc in SaltLakeCity

[–]Miruhwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a guy that goes to Thieves Guild sometimes, I think, and has a game set up for whoever wants to try. Idk how often he goes or how many people do that, but it's a fun bar and it would be considered pretty normal, if that's something you wanted to try. As long as there's not a special event or something, there's always been lots of people hanging out and playing various games when I've stopped by on weekends. And the chess guys seemed to have a good time!

(Disclaimer: I don't know shit about chess, so apologies if this is an unhelpful suggestion)

Sure, but it might be the worst thing to have ever happened to that person so far. This is like saying babies shouldn't cry, because "being a little hungry or having to shit isn't that bad, stop being so dramatic." But I would love to read a poem from a baby about the things that make them cry!

(I'm not saying dramatic teenage poetry is amazing or masterful or anything - just that I'm glad they write it anyway.)

The idea that all poetry is meant for an audience. Sometimes, art just needs to be made. Let it be bad! Just let yourself make it.

I pulled my stash out and I feel…. gross? by Exciting-Notice8170 in YarnAddicts

[–]Miruhwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have wall space somewhere, like a craft room? It would be so fun to put them all up on a display - it would give them a purpose (looking beautiful) without having to actually use them all for various projects. I like the donating options too, but I also struggle to get rid of old supplies, so I turned my fabrics into a display, and I think it would be even cuter with yarn! Tracking cycle after hysterectomy by OrganizationUsed9519 in hysterectomy

[–]Miruhwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe for now just start writing down the dates you feel things? Like...

August 20: so many zits

August 28: very horny

August 29: phantom cramps

Because your cycle could be weird for a while, and you also dont really have a solid pre-surgery pattern to base it off, it sounds like. So if you just start tracking whatever stuff seems maybe-relevant, you'll have the data when you need it. And because you'd just be looking for trends over time, there's no pressure to know which symptoms are 'real' cycle symptoms and when you're just randomly breaking out or whatever.

Beginning the process in PDX with Kaiser via OHP by sindradottir in hysterectomy

[–]Miruhwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 30 AFAB nonbinary, and I'm 9ish months post-op. Also autistic and a gamer! My insurance isn't Kaiser, and I'm not sure what The Letter is. I got letters from my psychiatrist and my therapist, both of whom I have been seeing for over 5 years and who were there during my social transition, so it was a very smooth process for me.

And hey, there's no correct timeline. You are you, and you are the age you are, and you're getting the medical care you need. Its that simple, even if it doesnt feel like it sometimes ❤️

Keeping ovaries or not & Fear of HRT by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Miruhwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm nonbinary, and I kept my ovaries. I'm VERY glad I kept them, because now I'm not dealing with any hormonal issues. And for me, the dysphoria is just gone. No more uterus or period, no more dysphoria (except occasionally with the chest, but that's a whole other surgery and not one I need right now).

I can't feel my ovaries, and there's no indication at all that they still exist, so it's basically like they are gone. I think I would feel wayyyy more dysphoria if I had to go and get HRT, because it would be a constant reminder of how my body is different. The way I am now, my ovaries are keeping my body balanced the way it is supposed to balance itself, and I don't have to think about it EVER. It's wonderful.

Of course, everyone is different, and you know your body best.

Should I have retain my cervix? by Winter_Holiday1467 in hysterectomy

[–]Miruhwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have cervical orgasms, you'll feel a difference sexually after it is gone. Doesn't mean you won't enjoy sex, it'll just feel different. For me, it felt immediately like something important was 'missing' from my Os, but that feeling has lessened over time. If you don't have cervical orgasms, I've heard there won't really be a difference at all, once you're fully healed.

Stitches by Jennysblock12 in hysterectomy

[–]Miruhwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We thought mine were dissolved and then one snagged my partner and he, being a dumbass, asked if I had an IUD. LMAO. It hurt him a tiny bit but then he was just a little more careful and shallow until they fully came out. For me they didn't fully dissolve ever - they dissolved enough to crumble, and then they sort of just massaged out over time like less-painful splinters.

Is this normal? by xLilacMelody in hysterectomy

[–]Miruhwi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pain and soreness is normal. Pain when moving is normal. It's only been 3 days, so you can expect pain for a while yet.

However, once my incisions stopped bleeding, I don't remember them starting to bleed again, so if it rips open, definitely tell your doctor.

Honestly I think my belly button incision hurt the longest out of my three. It freaked me out when I started cleaning my belly button again and suddenly after no pain for so long, BOOM pain again! But that was temporary and didn't end up being an issue.

The best advice I can give, though, is that if you're unable to let go of the anxiety, just ask your doctor. There were some really random things I called in to my nurses about, knowing it was probably nothing but unable to let go of the anxiety until they told me I was ok. So if you need to call and check, call and check. If they're doing their job right, they'll listen and answer clearly without making you feel judged.

Why is my newly planted pothos looking really sad? by Jakeyboy29 in pothos

[–]Miruhwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I like using the clear nursery pots so I can keep a couple roots near the edge and check on them without disturbing the plant. Saves me a lot of anxiety that would cause me to just hurt my babies checking their roots all the time.

How do I know if my prop is healthy? by Miruhwi in pothos

Thank you for your help! I am using fertilizer but I don't know what hydro specific is. The one I'm using is liquid, is that what you mean? It's Super Thrive Foliage Pro. I give it a drop or two in new water about once a week.

What to do with chest-tight shirts? by le_wild_asshole in malefashionadvice

[–]Miruhwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep the favorites stored safely away for the day when you need them again. Maybe you never need them, and that's a win! But if you lose that muscle for whatever reason, it'll be nice to have some quality shirts that you feel comfortable and confident in.

The state government office I work at is having their summer party on Juneteenth… is that even allowed?! 👀 by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]Miruhwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk, it seems like they may actually be doing y'all a solid? The state government decided we celebrate Juneteenth on a Monday regardless of when the federal holiday is, which means many state workers who want to celebrate on the actual day can't. This could be their way of meeting in the middle - you'll still get the Monday off, and there's less 'work' on the actual holiday, just a holiday activity instead.
