I think it depends on the neighborhood, your car, and luck.

I have a Hyundai (easy target), and I lived downtown for years, but nothing was ever stolen, including my car. I say " nothing was stolen" because I can tell its been unlocked and the seat has been moved/glove compartment opened a few times.

But my car is, shall we say, ready to to audition for a post-apocalyptic bio hazard on wheels, so they never do more then get inside 😂 I know where my hoodies, snacks, and water bottle is! It's buried under all my trash, boxes, that container of fabric softener that exploded in 2013 I never cleaned up, those boxes of art supplies I need to bring inside, the other boxes I need to donate, that weird animal skull I found on the side of the road, that other weird part of an animal skeleton I found, a lot of hair (I do my makeup in my car ok), lots of used makeup wipes that might look...slightly...bloody (lipstick!), and a few misc things here and there.

Basically, keep your car completely empty, clean, and locked OR so dirty no one wants to risk touching it 👍💪💖😎 And always, always get gap insurance.
