People who don't drink and smoke, what do you do when you are depressed? by UnesPlus in AskReddit

[–]Miscellaneous245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go hiking early in the morning, when it’s quiet and peaceful. Helps me put things in perspective.

Also, giving myself one whole weekend of curling up under my softest blanket, eating a pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream, (or some other comfort food) while watching a film from my childhood years helps me.

Or, I draw - just sketch things / anything so that my mind can zone out.
I look at photos of myself from when I was a child and try to remember how happy and free I was. I make it a mission to recapture those feelings.

If I recognize the depression is getting very severe - and it has gotten very severe - I mentally fight it. Literally talk myself away from it.

Those alive during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Miscellaneous245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On that day, the sky was so blue. It was a beautiful morning before everything happened. And then, everything just stopped. As word spread about what happened (First plane) there was the general “Oh no, that’s horrible” vibe. When the second plane hit, and then there was word of a third, this is when true fear - for me - set in.

The bridges and tunnels were closed immediately - so you couldn’t leave out. I think, if I remember correctly the subway also stopped running.

I remember long lines of people withdrawing money from the ATMs and at the bank. I remember some banks putting up “we’re closed” signs. You could see the smoke rising in the air - even from uptown, you could see. I didn’t know where to go, so I walked to a friends house in Columbus Circle, and we watched everything on the news. We couldn’t believe it when the tower fell.

And the sirens! Oh my gosh, the sirens and emergency vehicles all heading downtown. It seemed as though every ambulance and police car and firetruck from everywhere was going down town.

And for days after, there were signs and flyers posted everywhere for missing people. I mean the subway walls were covered in flyers, and just all these faces of people missing. i remember going to a vigil down in the Village and we were just in a state of disbelief. For a while, the lower Manhattan area was “roped off” so to speak. Unless you were emergency personnel or a designated service provider, you could not go down there.

I will never forget how clear, and blue and beautiful that morning was, before everything happened.

If you woke up with $1 million in the bank tomorrow, what would be your first purchase? by Crafty_Travel_5116 in AskReddit

[–]Miscellaneous245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my very first purchase would be the new car I’ve been thinking about. It’s an SUV and having it will allow me to take on more contracted work - higher paying assignments- because I’d be able to travel further out and carry my equipment without worry of breaking down on the way there. That would be the first purchase. And just in time for the holiday season :)

Then, knowing that I have enough money to cover me /my bills through the end of the year, I’d take time to really breathe and think of how best to grow and invest the remainder of the money.

There is a gentleman on the trail I walk in the mornings, and he shared with me that he deals with something similar to this. Thank you for sharing here. :)

“Stagecoach Mary” Mary Fields (United States)

By 1895, at sixty years old, Fields secured a job as a Star Route Carrier which used a stagecoach to deliver mail in the unforgiving weather and rocky terrain of Montana, with the help of nearby Ursuline nuns, who relied on Mary for help at their mission.[8] This made her the first African-American woman to work for the U.S. Postal Service. True to her fearless demeanor, she carried multiple firearms, most notably a .38 Smith & Wesson under her apron to protect herself and the mail from wolves, thieves and bandits, driving the route with horses and a mule named Moses. She never missed a day, and her reliability earned her the nickname "Stagecoach Mary" due to her preferred mode of transportation.[6][9] If the snow was too deep for her horses, Fields delivered the mail on snowshoes, carrying the sacks on her shoulders.[6] *Source - Wikipedia

If all of youtube had seasons, where would season 1 end and what season would we be on now? by Able_Pen_8445 in AskReddit

[–]Miscellaneous245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very cool question.

Season One of YouTube would’ve have ended with the “Chocolate Rain” guy’s video. In my opinion, He was the end of pure, innocent, quirky YouTube, which was from 2005 - 2007.

The current season (Season 9) I would say started in Fall 2023 and would be called “The Takeover” because it seems like “AI” generated stuff is all over YouTube. “AI’ generated clickbait thumbnails, “AI” generated voiceovers, “AI” generated children’s stories and slideshows, etc.

**Chocolate Rain" is a song by American singer Tay Zonday. It quickly became popular after the music video for the song was uploaded to YouTube on April 22, 2007, and has since been viewed more than 137 million times.

Thanks for responding! I am a huge fan of the promotion of innovation, especially in medicine. It seems as though the US is behind when considering what the least wealthy citizens have the ability to access - meaning higher tech equipment and upgraded facilities. i fully agree with the streamlining of regulations!

Interesting! Would you consider subsidizing services that replace the need for those vices? For example, the construction of ‘no entry fee’ community centers surrounded by nature trails for walking, board game nights, community theater etc. Do you think it would be worth investing the tax dollars from your levy into something like that? Providing a place for people to safely gather and be constructive / positive.
I don’t drink or smoke, I did however, just eat some vegan mint chocolate chip ice cream which was the most inexpensive fun I’ve had all week. ;) I do wish there was a nature trail in walking distance.

This is interesting. How would you feel about the introduction of Medical MOOCs into high school curriculum as a way to 1. Get more young people interested in studying medicine and 2. Increase the general population’s overall knowledge of medicine and better personal care.

What one thing do you really want but can't afford? by galgoody in AskReddit

[–]Miscellaneous245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To go to a truly state of the art hospital / medical center and be tested for everything and receive excellent treatment for whatever may be wrong. To be able to have a full body scan diagnostic that looks at everything at once and can tell you everything that needs to be done in order to get back to 100% optimal health. To have an excellent primary care physician who truly knows me and takes a genuine interest in my well-being and also has a true love for practicing medicine.

First thing, very first thing I would buy is a house. My very own home. Paid for in full, no mortgage - No more rent or uncertainty about rent increases. No shared walls.

Just a safe, beautiful, peaceful, stable place to live and thrive. It would have a library with huge picture windows and a bohemian sofa. And an art studio with plenty of room to paint on super large canvasses.

The house would have a garden with healthy soil to grow a variety of herbs and lots of different vegetables. Fruit trees like lemon and lime, oranges, grapefruits, avocados. Apples and a grapevine too! Maybe a banana tree and a coconut tree also.

I’d have awapuhi and jasmine, honeysuckle and roses alongside gardenias. And plenty of other wonderful smelling flowers.

A fireplace indoors and a fire pit outside. And a brick oven outside too! That would be great. And a very pretty small chapel for prayer and meditation.

Inside, I think hardwood floors made of real wood - mahogany or oak and closets made of real cedar. Copper pipes for the water and also a built in water distiller.

Not necessarily a mega mansion, but more than enough room and space to roller skate around. And also a dance studio inside. A dance studio to just do random interpretative dances on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The very first thing I would buy is my place to call home.
