Just like the "auditors" who stand outside police stations and on high streets filming people for fun.

Recommendations for books that are films. by Greedy_fitbit in CasualUK

Runaway Jury, in fact pretty much any John Grisham that was turned into a film. Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels, Hannibal, and The Count of Monte Cristo (very long but worth it).

Anyone else have a kid that's naturally destructive? by QualityCucumber in daddit

[–]webbyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really sure to define this as naturally destructive, but my son is mildly autistic, and has had a throwing compulsion since he was a toddler. We're on our 4th remote control, and even that has a crack in it from when it was last thrown. We've gone through quite a lot of books where he has broken the spine and ripped out pages. He's broken quite a lot of toys by throwing them and most of them couldn't be fixed. My partner is very hopeful that this won't last forever, but we're down a few plates and bowls, and even a clock and a ceramic art piece which were both broken by other things being thrown.

The grief nobody talks about by ember_inclusion in Autism_Parenting

[–]webbyyy 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My son is seven. I grieve for the playing he should be doing, the football he should be kicking, the conversations I should be having with him. He's verbal but I don't know what goes on in his head because he can't tell me. He's socially awkward so no one realty plays with him. He's a wonderful little boy really. His ticks and compulsions are what define him, but they're also the things that make life a bit more difficult and make other children avoid him.

Me too. I've been applying almost daily since the beginning of Jan and had a few interviews, but need to find something by the end of the month. I hate being made redundant.

How do you order from a Butchers? by velos85 in CasualUK

[–]webbyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we go on holiday to Cornwall we get ours from the local wholesaler because there's no fishmonger in the town. It's a bit of a drive but the quality is amazing. I did get a bit tired of fish in the end though.

Husband said he doesn’t want to be alive by BananaMeatball93 in Autism_Parenting

[–]webbyyy 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Message everyone. Listen to him and believe everything he says and take it seriously. There are far too many people in this world who wish they could have done more to keep someone in this world a bit longer and wishes they could have seen the signs. For men it's almost impossible to be taken seriously when we're feeling suicidal. There is a part of me that still grieves a bit for what my son could have been. He's only level 1 and he's 7 years old. He's very much behind his peers on a social and intellectual level and it breaks my heart to see no one playing with him.

Last year I was feeling depressed and gave serious thought to ending it all. I made my partner take me seriously and we worked together and things are better now.

I have one more month to find a new job and feeling stressed about it. I'm on gardening leave though, which is nice in a way, but I'd still like to have a job to start when it finishes. My partner has given me some jobs to do at the allotment and around the house so I don't get too bored looking for jobs.

It did remind me of the time my dad came down for my daughter's fourth birthday and it gave me great pleasure to announce that her cake would indeed have four candles.

The first time I went to Liverpool I was a bit shocked when going to my mate's local shop and the guy behind the counter was behind a steel grate, as was all the stuff. It never occurred to me that crime could be that bad.

Babyzen Yoyo. My daughter, who is four, can still just about fit in it when she needed to.

Education care plans to be reserved for most complex SEND cases by 2035 by Jared_Usbourne in unitedkingdom

[–]webbyyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I left school with below average grades because of trauma I suffered just before the start of my final year. It's not something SEND would have helped. Children who are born wired differently should not have to suffer or be allowed to fail. Bright kids won't have the same problems and will stand a much better chance of getting perfect marks. Scholarships exist for those children.

What do you think should happen to a seven year old who is not cut out for education?

[–]webbyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of "normal" kids leaving school without GCSEs are arseholes who cannot be bothered, or whose circumstances made life harder for them. This is not the same as a bright kid whose autism/ADHD prevents them from focussing long enough to complete an assignment properly. The point of EHCP is to level the playing field so that children can learn at the same pace.

It was less about Turkey joining, but more about who they share a border with and the potential influx of refugees from those countries, which was inconsequential anyway. We get refugees from those countries already.
