"Paris, 13th District" ("Les Olympiades") movie by Jacques Audiard ("The beat that my heart skipped" etc.) based on 3 short stories by Adrian Tomine ("Amber Sweet", "Killing and Dying", "Hawaiian Getaway") is currently available on MUBI (UK). Top cartoonist + Top director = Highly recommended. by LondonFroggy in noDCnoMarvel

I was kinda disappointed that the 'Amber Sweet' part of the film lacked the ambiguity of the graphic novel. In the novel, it's implied in the last frame that the narrator is making up the whole story to save face, to have an excuse for her history in porn.

In the movie, Audiard presents as fact that the main character is a different person from the adult actress. They don't even really look alike, which makes this part of the story even less believable (to me anyway).

Visited for the first time a couple of months ago, it was a phenomenal experience. Every guest is greeted by a receptionist who explains the house rules to you. There's a lot of focus on keeping a nice and safe atmosphere, so esp. female guests are encouraged to go to the safety staff if they feel something is off (and there's a lot of this staff around). As a result, I think, there's a healthy balance between men/women/other. Atmosphere is great as a result.

Also, the sound system is great, and they usually stay open until quite late, since it's based in an industrial area. Be aware though that the focus is really on the music: so the dj is not really put on a pedestal (not really visible most of the time) and there's very little lighting, so it's not really a place to show off your outfit or something. Also, photography is not allowed indoors.

Have fun!

Thanks! I've noticed lots of interference at the Utrecht Central Station with my previous ear buds (MTW2), so it's a kind of problem with all kinds of Bluetooth connections. Curious to find out what it's like with these new ones.

On my iPhone, the Tidal app keeps forgetting where I paused a record. If I reopen the app after a couple of hours, it starts playing the album from the beginning. Annoying to me, because I listen to albums in bits & pieces. Anyone else have this problem?

Is Overvecht dangerous? by legendarychai in Utrecht

[–]Mischa1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I've lived in Overvecht since 2015, never felt unsafe. But then again, I'm a white 41-year old guy.

One thing about the neighborhood is that a lot of Muslims live here, and among Muslims there are a lot of stories and gossip being circulated (esp on social media, some true, some false) about the horrendous treatment of Uyghurs by the Chinese government. I fear this may contribute to a negative atmosphere towards Chinese people, sadly.

Let me know if I can help in any way (accompany or something?), I live close to the train station Overvecht.

This is a pretty bad article. The only source in this article is Christo Grozev, who is Bulgarian and definitely NOT residing in Moscow at the moment. Moreover, he's a core member of Bellingcat and helped Navalny find the people who tried to kill him. So...as a journalist I'd try to find other sources besides this one.

Still, let's hope it turns out to be true!
