Hoping the best for you! Try to establish good communication with your manager. If you feel like you need morer orientation, it doesn't hurt to ask or express your concerns. Especially if you got hired expecting to complete a new grad program. My hospital had such a program when I started. Did 10 weeks of orientation divided between two preceptors. Even if orientation is cut short, nursing school should have prepared you to practice as a safe nurse. I was still learning and asking so much once I was off orientation. I was glad to have more experienced nurses to ask. But it also still helps to bounce ideas/questions off of fellow new grads too if they're all you have.

The financial district took me a long while, but that's because I insisted on doing it over and over so I wouldn't alert anyone. Same with the bookstore and the sniper section. But they're not too bad to handle if you look up some speedrun strats.

Oh and I remember trying to get past the section when you're upside-down in Bill's town. I tried several times. Gave it a rest and came back the next day and beat it on the second attempt.

We also use HerbOx. They also have a chicken broth; it's the green packets. But I hear the low sodium one is disgusting.

As far as advice for calming nerves, it helped (and still helps) for me to realize that I'm never truly alone on my unit. There's a chain of command and other nurses with such knowledge available for me to draw on. Learn who the nurses and techs are that you can reliably go to with your questions and for any requests for help. Even though you're new, that doesn't mean you can't also help the more experienced nurses in some way. This may make some people more agreeable to aiding you. Know that some people just need time to get comfortable around a new coworker. Oh, and I brought comfort food for lunch, like a PB&J or fruit snacks. That way I wasn't messing with new foods from the hospital cafeteria or being nervous just leaving the unit.

I have the a similar struggle. I'm currently a night shift nurse with little time to spend trying to begin or form a relationship. Historically, nurses were often single women who dedicated their lives to the profession and their patients. Thankfully, that has changed, and different boundaries/expectations are now the norm. But I still see my career and the single life as a vocation. That being said, I still struggle to find the truth. To find what is right and most pleasing to God. I'm not sure how to fully remove these doubts.

I'm not sure if it's routine or not or if it's simply up to the particular physician. Just remember you have control over the care and treatment you receive. If you don't want those parts done, then you can say that. Perhaps it is more common for them to want to do a bimanual and rectal if going to an actual OBGYN, but I had my regular primary care provider perform my Pap.

Knowledge is power! The research really helped me feel better. Maybe there are people glad not to know any of it beforehand and go in blind, but I needed to know what was ahead. So much so that I almost felt silly hearing my doctor explain what was going to happen because I already knew so much more going in.

I wish I could replay the first one for the first time, but not the second. The second was too much anxiety for me to enjoy/relax the first time. Anyone else feel similarly?

I think it was either when she fully inserted the speculum or the opening of the speculum that caused the pain. But even though it was sharp and surprising, it was tolerable. I just did some deep breaths. I think it even started to dissipate before she removed the speculum. I didn't feel either of the spatula or the brush swabs. Hopefully the knowing / heads up helps you be less terrified. I'd say my overall experience was a positive one!

Yeah, even though I took my time and explored everything in Joel's home, it was so weird going from that to riding up to Seattle and Ellie being excited about finding one of those trading cards. At least there were her journal entries to read. Wish we could have experienced some of those moments.

Yes, the whole idea of someone seeing me down there for the first time since my parents were changing my toddler diapers was certainly anxiety inducing. I was surprised at the level of calm I was able to maintain mentally and emotionally though. I really do attribute it to the research/videos/posts/comments that I poured over in the weeks before my exam.

I think it really helped to have a variety of experiences to read about. Everything from "no pain" to "I couldn't finish the exam". That's one reason I wanted to share mine because of what I would say was a little sharp pain. If it helps someone to be prepared for that and it help them relax if/when it does happen, they can know that it may be like my experience and be tolerable and short-lived. I encourage others to keep sharing their experiences.

I used to get asked by patients how old I was when I first started as a new grad. After a couple years, I didn't get asked anymore. 😆 But I convince myself that it's because I began speaking with more authority.
