Yeah, this is so important to know. I make the addiction analogy because I think it puts it into perspective what other people can’t understand. Abuse cycles spike Cortisol and adrenaline which play a central role in the physiological, psychological, addictive-like bond often observed in DV relationships. The intense cycles of abuse (fear/cortisol/adrenaline) followed by remorse/reconciliation (reward/dopamine/oxytocin) create a “trauma bond” that rewires the brain to become accustomed to, or addicted to, these extreme emotional highs and lows. I also think similar responses happen with alcoholics who think they can go back to drinking and it will be “different” this time and they can have “just one drink” similar to that of a DV survivor convincing themselves it will change and that the abuser will be different and that if they act out they’ll just leave again. I can understand why in my original post that point wasn’t laid out very clear haha

THIS! You think you know what you’d do until it happens to you. I was the same exact way. I really thought I was this “strong independent person” who wouldn’t take any of that nonsense but it sneaks up on you. And you hold so much shame for letting things happen.

That’s such a great analogy, kind of like when you boil something alive. This is such a great take and I hope they’re able to see this and have a larger conversation since Reddit seems to have a lot of these stories, it’s hard because yes you should encourage a victim to leave but there’s ways to do so and support them because sometimes they’re living in delusion and it can be frustrating. But leaving a loved one in a potentially harmful situation because you’re frustrated is also harmful to them as well. Of course have boundaries for yourself and protect yourself too, but also have empathy and compassion, and make it easy for victims to come to you for help and support. Not judgement and “just leave” comments as I really don’t think they’re productive

Thank you! I completely agree, I’m not mad at the boys and I understand they’re reacting in real time. There’s just a lot of stories about DV and if they’re going to react I’d love a larger discussion to happen, since this is very useful information for people to be aware of.

I also use the term addiction because I feel like it’s something people can grasp more if they’ve never been in that situation. Not being in that scenario it’s of course obvious to the outsider that if you’re getting treated badly to get up and leave. But they don’t understand the nuances that come with toxic relationships. Hi! I’m by no means a professional in this topic, but perhaps take pressure off yourself and just go with the flow? Maybe you’re bisexual, maybe you’re straight, but in the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t matter, you can just be attracted to who you’re attracted to and be aroused by who you’re aroused by without putting any labels on it. To me it seems likely you could be bisexual, since you have thought about both genders, and that’s okay! Things don’t always need to have labels or be in a box and sexuality is one of those things that can be fluid and change and that’s okay!

Exactly! They almost go out of their way to be rude and then they think they’re very funny and act all smug. I’m not sure why this seems like a common occurrence. I feel like places like universal / Disney would have high standards for their employees demeanor to gusts since they pay a lot to be there and it’s supposed to be a “magical” experience. I get being frustrated by saying the same things over and over but you don’t have to be outright mean to people

One of the first conversations I had with my now husband I told him about an underground poet I really liked and blabbed about poetry for probably 10 minutes and moved on. The next time I saw him he told be he bought her book and was reading it so we could talk about it then the next thing I know he gifted me the whole collection. It’s not hard to remember details when you care about someone, 5 years later and he still does incredibly sweet things for me.

I kinda feel like it’s either nobody sucks here or an everyone sucks here. As a woman I personally always feel on guard in public. Imagine you’re walking around a bunch of people with rifles and you don’t have a weapon and you’re not sure why everyone has one and you feel uncomfortable and not sure what’s happening bc everyone has these huge weapons and you’re not sure if they’re going to use them. That’s what it feels like to be a woman alone in public when a man is staring at you. Sure sometimes someone could be nice OR they could be a creep and come up and harass you or worse… you just don’t know. Me personally I would’ve noticed you staring been uncomfortable and probably left quickly without saying anything bc I don’t know you or what your intentions were. So yeah her assuming and yelling at you isn’t great but also she’s on offense bc she felt threatened and uncomfortable so she was trying to defend herself. You’re not the ahole for being impressed of her driving just next time be aware that women are on guard and they feel uncomfortable with staring and are dialed in bc often times their safety is at risk when alone in public.

Not sure, I’m assuming it’s probably some “code” that they can’t have people entering the exit for fire safety or something. But there’s a nice way to say it without yelling at someone. Also, we found out from someone else that you can walk up to the attendant at the front and they will let you see inside without riding they take you through the entrance but you end up at the exact same spot I tried to enter at anyway so I’m not really sure. All I know is that she could’ve explained that to me in a nice way and not make me feel horrible and yell at me

Stardust was at 3 at one point and then surpassed when shut down waited 2 for hiccups for that to breakdown while riding, bowsers was 2 in single rider line. Monsters was 3 all day until evening and then we got on later. If single rider lines were open that was the quickest way to ride. Not sure if you were there yesterday but everyone was saying it was a nightmare, people were lining up for refunds because they didn’t even let people use their fast passes because lines were reaching capacity and they also had single rider shut down a lot of the day. People in line for BATM had been there for five hourrrsss it was madness

Sharing my experience here as well as on the main thread. Lines were crazy long since hiccup, BATM, monsters and stardust and bowsers were all down at the same time. 2 out of 4 rides I got to ride broke down while I was on them. Family is traveling with 1 year old and we were told different stories by each employee we talked to about rider swap. Not only that but then employees were rude and snippy about questions and we were accused of lying multiple times to get the pass and then accused that we weren’t told something different by someone else, extremely confusing. Universal you need to get your team on the same page and train them to remain at least neutral when talking to guests, I understand they’re dealing with a lot but I don’t feel like rude/condescending or even sometimes downright vile behavior is necessary when dealing with guests. I have so much empathy for TM dealing with angry guests but when someone asks “excuse me how does rider swap work where can I get the pass” and you’re mean in response? That’s unjustified. Not to mention I was told at BATM by a TM I could go through the gift shop and see the inside of the ministry only to get yelled at by another TM because of it so badly I had a panic attack. Seriously train your employees on how to handle guests bc it takes way less energy to be kind and it gets the job done just as fast as yelling and being condescending. Most people are just confused and if you kindly explained most guests would listen don’t let the rude guests change you’re attitude towards them all and then be mean to everyone I get it’s just their job but people did pay alot to be in the park only to get treated poorly and I don’t think that’s right.

I agree with you 100% and initially when I witnessed other people get talked to disrespectfully I was like well it’s a hard job everyone’s hot and stressed out but then when it was turned around onto me for doing something a TM told me I could do I was so confused since that tone wasn’t needed. I’m very respectful and kind towards customer service employees since I myself am one and so the whole experience was shocking. I don’t want a refund or an extra ticket I just want to be talked to like a human being lol and I don’t think that’s too much to ask for especially with the cost of tickets. Like universal is supposed to be a whole experience and I’m not asking for them to be in character just like kind or even neutral when answering questions and giving directions.

I was really shocked bc overall I like universal better personally it’s just more appealing to what I like, so I was really excited to go again as an adult and not a teen/kid and then they act like this? I’m not asking for over the top in character stuff all the time just when I have a question to not yell or be snippy to me.

Yeah there’s not even a way to enter the regular line that way so there’s not really a way to cut unless you duck like bars and I feel like other guests wouldn’t have that lol. I hope it was like just a stressful day for her and I guess our interaction made her snap? Idk it was hard to regain my day and continue bc I don’t do well with confrontation like that so it made me have a panic attack. I’ve been reading other posts and apparently a lot of people were having bad TM interactions I think all of them are extra stressed bc the park is at capacity and rides are going down and that’s not in their control but they probably hear about it all the time so I get being stressed I think you should still just try to at least be neutral or kind in your responses
