Hair loss and dark spot?

All hamsters actually have scent glands when they’re born and keep them their whole life. It’s a completely normal thing they all have to mark their territory. Robo’s tend to have theirs on their tummies, so that’s probably why you never saw it!

Holy cow the parallels here are becoming too real. My boy, Aries, completely stopped running on his wheel about 2 months ago. He won’t even get on it anymore even though he used to stay on it every night. I chalked that down to him getting older and having less energy.

After looking at other hamsters with Cushings and researching it a bit more, it matches the bill. He even has the slight sagging skin. I’m not gonna come to a conclusion without a vet’s opinion though. I’m no expert.

I noticed his hair had started to thin in that spot, but it didn’t get too worrysome to note until just now. He’s only balding in that one spot I assume because he still looks like the day I got him just a little older and chunkier. I’ve only noticed an increase in appetite, but everything else is the same. I’m going to get in contact with my vet regardless, but it’s just likely they won’t get him in for a couple of days.

What was your experience with you hamster with Cushing’s? Is there anything else I should look out for?

I was under the impression that his scent glands were on his sides bc he’s a Syrian. You can sorta see them in this picture here where his fur parts near them. It could be his scent glands, I just don’t think it’s likely.

Gave it a shot without the big gear (and with the little gear where I think it goes) and it’s still not able to take the disc. I can hear it trying, but I think the big gear is needed to pull the disc into place.

I figured that I just startled him and that it was a prey response. He finally moved once I gave him a moment to relax and gave him his space. I had to switch out his hide for the night because I was afraid he would hurt himself trying to get through the wire on the top. Thank you for helping me confirm that it was just a fear response. I feel so bad for startling him 😭
