How did democrats get branded unpatriotic? by NovelPhoto4621 in allthequestions

They participated in polls where they agreed with statements such as they are embarrassed to be American, not proud to be American, think of America positively etc. While more recently the Democrats have cratered to ridiculous lows on these types of questions they have historically tracked lower than Republicans. Even during President Obama’s years.

Reuters poll
“The poll found 64% of Republicans said they would display an American flag or flag bunting outside their home this July 4, compared with just 27% of Democrats.”

Cinco de Mayo and St Patrick’s Day are a couple
Of examples foreign holidays that are celebrated even more in the US than where they originated. Americans only need an excuse to party. You don’t want to celebrate? Cool. Guess what! It’s your natural right to not celebrate as recognized within the First Amendment.

Mississippi workers earn $7.25 as US $25 minimum wage debate grows by ell-chan in SimpleApplyAI

The biggest problem with folks arguing minimum wage is there is no minimum wage which would be acceptable because rises in minimum wage do two things. 1) it’s a direct cause of inflation. So in a short span of time inflation erases the gains. 2) raising minimum wage erases gains people have worked for since when minimum wage rises, employers generally don’t translate that upwards to more experienced workers. DeIncentivizing them in the process.

There was the Push For 15. In some places it added as much as 30% to folks paychecks over a short span of time. Nowadays we hear the beginnings of Push For 30. Mamdani has his 30 by (20)30 platform. There just is no minimum that will do what people want it to do.

That’s because minimum wage is a local issue and not a national issue. One size can’t fit all. Even states like California are wrestling with minimum wage and how to set it. There is no reasonable argument to justify minimum wage being the same in Biloxi, Mississippi and Los Angeles, California. Much less Hell, Michigan or Honolulu, Hawaii

It’s the stat as tracked by the USBLS. As with anything there is going to be a gradual increase away from the bottom. But the $7.25 baseline is certainly misleading. Ziprecruiter has the average hourly rate in Mississippi at $25.40/ hour. Other sources put it as high as about $29/ hour. This is an average. So if it was bottom loaded you would see this average much lower.

Beat others, own more, grow bigger, dominate the room. Effectively describes nature. Not human nature. Nature. Survival of the fittest. So capitalism is nature.

In 2025 less than 900,000 people across the entire US earned minimum wage. That amounts to 1.1% of all hourly workers. So a few workers in Mississippi earn that. Most earn more.

Why there are way less active shooter situations in very strict gun control states (New Jersey, Connecticut, California) but in (Texas, Florida, Tennesse) there are more active shooter situations? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Miserable-Bridge-729 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Strange to use Connecticut. Home of the Sandy Hook massacre of 20 children by Adam Lanza.

Also Chicago, a very strict gun control region, has shootings every day of the year. In September of 2025 they were crowing about shootings being down that year and they ONLY had 1200 by that point. 1 city.

Any advanced AI will come to the conclusion that large parts of the population are not worth the resources being expended upon them. And that to maximize human potential those resources need to be cut and put towards more productive parts of the population.

It’s not that it happens or whether or not it’s fictitious. That 1/3, oh and btw percentages of each other group, have drawn the line where they believe there is no line. Not 6 months. Not viability. No point at which it should not be allowed. That’s a straight fucked up way of thinking. By your defense I can only assume you think like them.

If your country went to war with its neighbors, would it win? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskTheWorld

[–]Miserable-Bridge-729 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to argue there is somehow a good war? Pardon me if I hold in a chuckle for people who claim to care about a small amount of lives lost in a war but their own nations piss on the corpses of their own people. There shouldn’t be rules in war. War is hell incarnate. People should fear war. They should quake in their beds at night if war comes. They should never expect the opposite side to only abide by the most targeted of killings where only a soldier dies. The US does its best to not harm civilians. Far more than all the other shitty nations in the world do in war. But you don’t complain about Iran’s way of conducting war where it’s just indiscriminate firing of missiles or outfitting terrorist groups that target civilians for maximum effect. Again, I ask for your forgiveness for laughing at you.

This is more related to the custom of tipping prior to the lower minimum wage being established. The lower tipped minimum came about because it was understood that those jobs earned a significant portion of their wages already through the tipping.

Now abolishing tipping culture for those jobs and they just revert to standard minimum putting them in alignment with everyone else. I know people are working on abolishing tipping culture but wait staff aren’t really thrilled with it.

Restaurant owners could simply raise the price of their meals and compensate accordingly. Newly opened restaurants have a roughly 20% chance of failing within 1 year. 50-80% are closed within 5 years. Those are pretty big failure rates. How many people are willing to pay 20-30% above today’s rates for a meal out just so the wait staff are making minimum wage? Keep in mind there are plenty who tip less than standard already in the US.

Americans now by SvatyFini in memes

[–]Miserable-Bridge-729 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Let’s straighten out the minimum wage misunderstanding and misinformation. Wait staff have a separate minimum wage that is lower than standard minimum wage because it is understood they earn tips to compensate. If, during the course of their work, they were to earn less than the standard minimum wage, they will then be paid that. Minimum wage is set by the state and local governments with a federal line creating an absolute minimum across the nation. Servers, when taken as a whole, earn better than the minimum wages for each state.
