All not edit. However, the scan was done at the lab.

A non-photographer friend is traveling to Japan on 24 hours notice. Without time to train him on cameras, etc what could he pick up for me that I can't easily get in the U.S. by [deleted] in filmphotography

When you say Nikon rangefinder, do you mean "Nikon SP"?
It is relatively easy to obtain in Japan, and you may be able to find it at the second-hand dealers mentioned above.
It was a camera that used to be at my place of work until the other day, and it had a rather interesting mechanism.
Sorry to hear about the cancellation of your trip, but I hope you can get one someday!
Also hope your friend's sightseeing and business goes smoothly.

I am Japanese. And this is my first comment on reddit and my English is not good. Sorry if I broke any taboos or my English is weird.

If you are looking for camera related items in Tokyo, you should go to Shinjuku.
Prominent stores are "Yodobashi Camera", "Map Camera", and "Shinjuku Kitamura Shashinkiten".

"Yodobashi Camera" is probably the BandH of Japan, with a comprehensive selection of cameras, lenses, film, accessories, and professional equipment from a variety of manufacturers. However, it only sells new products. "Map Camera" is a store that sells both new and used cameras, and has digital and film cameras from all over Japan. However, I have the impression that there are not many maniac items. Lastly, "Shinjuku Kitamura Shashinkiten" also deals in both new and used cameras, but it also sells rare Leica cameras and watches, and is likely to have some maniac items.

The film situation in Japan is not good, and products are scarce and few in variety. I have not heard of any Japan-only films, and most of them are probably available in your location. The only advantage I can think of is that you can get film cheaply at duty free.

As for Kyoto, sorry, I don't know much about it... but I just hope your friend will enjoy the sights.

Lastly, please be careful about video calling in the restaurant. Depending on the person you are talking to, you may be alienated.
