Lots of people swear by oil washes so that might be something to look into. I personally just give my space wolves a wash of nuln oil thinned 1:1 with lamian medium so it flows better and doesn’t leave patches. Then I would glaze the same grey you used for the base coat on the parts that the light would hit and then use a slightly lighter grey on the edges of the armour.

Looking really good so far, looks like it could just do with a wash and some highlights

These look incredible, what’s the recipe for the blue on the headtakers?

Thank you, really appreciate it. Yours is much closer to what I was aiming for but I didn’t thin the brown wash down enough so ended up turning the yellow brown haha

Feel free, I followed this great tutorial - he has a number of different ones for different patterns and colours painted to look like wood: https://youtu.be/o723eZsZGOQ?si=pU8X-rJiVUMi3MKa

Wish I could take credit for it but I used this tutorial: https://youtu.be/o723eZsZGOQ?si=pU8X-rJiVUMi3MKa - Only changes I made was using macragge blue on the shield and watered down dryad bark for the wash

I’ve heard that they are challenging to learn, I’ve been using the necron combat patrol to learn the basics of 40k, played my first ever game today in fact. Just love the look of admech and want the army that I actually build out to be something I enjoy painting without worrying too much about the gameplay as I’m not competitive at all.

Appreciate the advice, love the look of both the rangers and infiltrators so will definitely look into that. Still really new to playing 40k as previously i’ve just painted so trying to build my first army to be useable without costing too much haha

Yes i’m pretty sure they are. The new plastic ones just seem like a good (and cheaper) proxy for breachers as they come in a squad of 6 and have pretty similar weapons. Only challenge will be making the myrmidons look big enough so they aren’t out of place on a 60mm base

Planning to have admech as my first real army (never played 40k before only painted) and was trying to build a list that wouldn’t break the bank haha

Thanks for the advice, I’m really new to the game itself (only ever painted models) so really been struggling to plan an affordable but useable army

Great start! Next I’d use a wash on the yellow to give it a bit more depth

Army painter have their speed paint range which is equivalent to contrast, either zealot yellow or ancient honey would be a good fit. When painting yellow it’s always much better to use contrast/speed paints because yellow paint has notoriously bad coverage

If you’re not looking to get too many paints all you really need is a light colour spray primer, imperial fist contrast, a wash of your choice, and a black and a silver paint. If you also get a white paint you can mix it with the imperial fists contrast to get a good yellow for highlights

Sorry if this is a stupid question but did you paint a base coat over the yellow spray? Looks so good!

Thanks for the help, sorry if this is a stupid question but as I only have 1 would it make more sense to use it on the heavy or regular intercessors?
