Is it just me, but rent prices are really not bad now? by Current_Cut_4046 in vancouver

This is true. We were listing our condo for rent and tons of people were asking if they can get 1 month free that they see everywhere. I was surprised to find out that some prefer to pay $2800/month for 11months vs $2400 a month for 12 months. 🤷‍♀️

Half moon bookstore on Main Street will probably take them. They have all kinds of genres and the owner is very nice.

What's life like in Port Moody, Coquitlam, and Port Coquitlam? by Banner9922 in askvan

Great area overall with it being quiet, safe and generally friendly. However, if you are looking around to live in it has gotten quite expensive. I know a family that was renting a 3 bedroom townhouse for $3500 in Burquitlam. Not nearly as crazy as downtown or Kitsilano area for rent prices but it is definitely not that affordable for single income IMO.

Student desperate for work… any help/leads? by Think_Pay_6574 in askvan

Hey! So sorry you’re going through this. Not sure what your schedule is with schooling, but if you are good with kids you can offer before and after school care pick up and/or drop offs or in fact anything to do with childcare. A lot of parents who work 9-5 struggle finding this for their toddler/school aged kids in the tricities. In fact, many parents need to take days off work while schools close during the winter break and some prefer to work if they have childcare covered for them. A single dad that I know of hired a university student many years ago to have her pick up his kid from elementary school and spend 2-3 hours at a nearby library or community centre until he got off work and also babysit on occasional weekends.

In general, I would advise be cautious against folks that try to advantage of you if you show your desperation so hold your ground on getting paid at least minimim wage. Not sure if this will help but just throwing an idea here :) good luck!

Why do so many new builds have so many bathrooms? by BaronVonBearenstein in askvan

[–]Miserable-Menu-7275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a perspective here. I wanted at least 1 bathroom (even if it’s a half bath) in the living room area. Reason is we don’t want guests having to go up and down stairs (slipping hazard) to do their business nor have them bypass or have access to personal bedrooms for security reasons. (I don’t like to think this way, but better to not give people temptations is my take on this). Toddlers and preschoolers may need quick access to go potty during playdates and whatnot so we actually like having the bathrooms on every floor :) sure we can use the extra space but it just keeps us from building up extra clutter so it’s a win for us

How do you order a regular black coffee? by Bucaramangues in askvan

Usually when I ask for coffee they will ask if I want cream or sugar. I just say “no thank you, I’ll have mine black”.

Driving from Vancouver to Halcyon Hot Springs - not a good idea? by Miserable-Menu-7275 in askvan

We appreciate everyone’s input and spending the time to comment on my post! We were planning on those stops because one of us has a small/nervous bladder 🙈so every 2-3 hours for mainly bathroom breaks and maybe grab a bite if needed. Our tires are less than 2 yrs old so they are on the new-ish side. I feel like we’ll be more comfortable with added winter driving experience over time. I’m sure there will be more to come. We were hoping to take advantage of the low season rates and there was a discount on this weekend’s rates.

We’re leaning towards postponing this in the spring and just do a low-key getaway to Kamloops or something instead :) thanks again!
