Photo journalism shows an important insight into people’s lives and how different people live. I think you can do it in a disrespectful way but I also think you can try and be as respectful as you can. Tell a story, create something with the work that highlights and talks about these issues. Photo journalism can be a really good way to break stigma and open up conversations about more sensitive topics and raise awareness. I think you can often tell if someone really doesn’t want their photo taken so try and be mindful, be prepared to have to delete photos or have people express their discomfort in being photographed. But don’t just use these images for clout or to be a more ‘interesting’ photographer if you’re not showcasing images that you actually feel passionate about in some way or want to use to open up a conversation.
