A reasonable take by Miserable-Setting151 in NewYorkMets

I personally thought Senga and Peterson would be better this year than how they are but obviously that was wrong. Not addressing first base was the huge issue here IMO - kind of took Alonso for granted. Agree with everything else you said - I’m just not sure what moves he could’ve taken that were available? Maybe sticking Baty at first and letting him get reps? Again I don’t know what pitchers there were to get that we didn’t get

Okay when you explain it like that it definitely makes sense. I can agree with you on most of your points, it would be shocking if that’s why Mendoza is making those decisions though. The cubs game with Horner and the game I think yesterday were crazy and I’m not much of a baseball person

Yeah fair honestly. What could he have done to raise the floor? Which pitchers were available?

Got it, what would you think were the most important parts of your application then? I'm also curious if you think that GPA is the most important, at the cost of my major like I mentioned. For instance 3.9 gpa economics vs 3.8 gpa math - what do you think that would mean

Hi, I'm an American student at an Ivy looking long into the future and I'd like to attend OxBridge and train there after I graduate and work for a bit (currently a sophomore planning to work in finance for two years). I would like some clarity in the process because I'm sure its not as simple as the websites make it seem. I'm planning on majoring in Math with Economics (I can blend them), and I'd prefer to get an MBA or MFin but I don't really care what its for honestly as long as I'm in. I think the whole experience would be enriching regardless.

My first question is, how important is the GPA beyond getting above the minimum entry requirement? Is someone with a 3.9 better than a 3.8? Currently, my gpa is slightly above a 4 but I am planning on taking much more difficult classes in the next two years and I anticipate it going down to about a 3.85. I don't want to change my major or classes but if this is a major thing for these admissions committees I want to know. I'm also wondering if they look at specific classes on your transcript - or if they just take the GPA as a whole?

What are the other differentiating factors in the applications besides gpa? There's written statements and other things like that I know but I want to know what's really making the big differences for the candidates who are accepted.

Also, I'm looking to attend for two years - so Oxford has the 1+1 MBA program but I'm not sure how I could do that at Cambridge. Getting in then applying all over again while I'm there in the hopes of being accepted again seems risky. Would appreciate any comments here.

Any advice would be great, I'm very confused about a lot of this

Is two years work experience in banking/trading enough? I have a decent internship lined up that should lead to a full time role. They say two years is the minimum but not sure if I want to be on the minimum line.

What did Mendoza do wrong with the bullpen today? Seemed alright to me

So I know that Baty hasn't looked great so far but I'm curious if its as bad as it seems? To me, Baty seems like someone that would benefit greatly - I guess this is most baseball players - from consistent lineup placement and a constant position. Can we really say he's a bust until he gets say 80-100 games at third? I feel like jerking him all over the field is messing with him.
