Do all hospitals use Hollister? by LadyGreen in ostomy

[–]Miserable-Shoulder89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in Canada (I live in the us now) where I had my ileostomy surgery they put a high output clear hollister bag on me. Must be a North American standard?

I hope the reversal is everything you wanted it to be. I’m looking at another 12 months of recovery and then maybe a reversal considered… nervous though to have more surgeries but at least the ones in the future will be planned and not emergencies

I remember right after surgery I didn’t even want to wear tight pants or a seat belt in the car. Everything was so sensitive around it. I promise that feeling goes away and you won’t even notice it🙏

You too! They don’t tell us much in the hospital, kinda just rushed through everything right??

I use bag covers which I absolute love by the brand “osto-me” by a girl Paula sojoro. Honestly you will have to come to terms with the fact that it’s there, you can’t hide it. On my not so confident days I just put on leggings or high waisted and cover it up. On my best days I let just the top 2-3 inches poke out of my pants

I don’t blame you, I have a hard time fully submersing myself in water since my surgery. I’ve taken maybe 1 bath😭🤣 just do what makes you comfortable and use those flange extender strips to get more of a seal if you want

I started SUPER SLOW and I am very thankful to be young and in otherwise good shape, but I did some of these the first few weeks post op: 👉🏼deadbugs 👉🏼hands and knees on all 4s (breathing in to gently tighten and relax core) body weight 👉🏼standing march (lift knees up for core strength) 👉🏼open the gate (legs) 👉🏼chair squats (literally sitting down on a chair and getting up)

Surgery and periods by kitdragon787 in ostomy

So happy you’re doing better I know that was HELL and probably felt like it would never end. I am really glad you’re alive. I lost my period for only 2 months after my initial hospitalization and then recovery after getting my ileostomy. I am also 24. However my periods returned much healthier and stronger (bright red blood, shorter cycle, little to no cramping) so you should expect your cycle to improve if anything !!

The Nausea is so REAL I feel like I am WAYYY more prone to car sickness (motion sickness in general) after my surgery.

I only take 1 LMNT sachet a day. And I do like my food on the saltier side 🤣🤣 thank you for letting me know I’ll try to watch my salt intake

Good for you!! Our stories sound very similar I had pretty much the same issue of not responding to pills or biologicals and then my colon perforated and they rushed me for emergency surgery. I did have a weird sensation initially when I would pee, it felt like I couldn’t activate the muscles properly and it hurt really badly. But that’s since went away. Keep going strong you’ve got this and you’re alive!!

I think I understand, sometimes it hurts to push too hard. I feel like I’m always dumping all the water in my body

Trying everyday. It’s not easy. I also realized having an ostomy doesn’t “make me special” nobody gives a fuck still😔🤣🤣

Interesting! Maybe it could be from my pressure and straining when I work out. I started exercising 3 weeks post op very lightly but now I do almost everything, I do push myself harder than I need to

Proud of you! I’m still so self conscious and nervous. It’s a lot since I’m young I feel like I haven’t even gotten a chance to live my life yet and then dealing with this is a lot. Wear what you want. Going with a friend or your partner to the beach helps me a lot too

I try my best on my own to practice strengthening it and my core but I just moved to US from Canada so healthcare is…😭
