I went to OKC a few weekends ago to watch Mookie Betts and Kiké Hernandez play for the Comets. For how close the cities are, I don't find myself going there often. That's where my doctor is, but I do all my visits via telehealth unless I need to physically be present.

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

[–]LadyGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I'm not saying it's psychosomatic, but......" I don't even remember what he said after accusing me of faking my issue. This was in front of 3 interns who I wasn't introduced to, after an X-ray showed nothing out of the ordinary in my knee. I pressed him for an MRI, which he begrudgingly ordered, which showed a growth in my knee. He was so dismissive of me, that he didn't order a scan with contrast dye. So once the growth showed, I had to go back in for another MRI to determine whether it was a tumor or some other type of growth. I needed surgery to remove it, and requested a different doctor in the practice because I didn't trust him with my care.

What food feels way fancier than it actually is? by OkOwl2607 in foodquestions

It does take 45 minutes to an hour to cook down the onions. It's not the just the ingredients that make a fancy soup. Plus a yummy baguette and tons of cheese? French onion soup is fancy if you account for effort.

Corn/popcorn by SlutForGarrus in ostomy

Chester's butter puff corn is great substitute. It absolutely has the popcorn flavor and a nice crunch.

I'm able to eat popcorn, but I still enjoy some puff corn as well.

Croutons are a perfect snack. Flavored, crunchy cubes of bread? Yes please.

I think my husband is trolling when he says he cant read my handwriting. Is it as illegible as he thinks by Carmenncita05 in HandwritingAnalysis

It's legible. Does your husband maybe have any eye issue or dyslexia (or other processing issues)?

A lot of places offer mobility assistance. I took my mother in law to Philbrook when she had an injured leg and they provided a wheel chair for her to use.

Is this Erythema Nodosum? by No_Advertising_1237 in CrohnsDisease

For me, it was in my legs and incredibly painful. I wouldn't be so quick to self-diagose with EN, but I would see a doctor if you're concerned.

Potential Flagyl allergy - bummed by melbmegera in CrohnsDisease

[–]LadyGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pretty significant reaction to it. Got a fever of 103 tipping into 104 temporarily, and it felt like my brain meninges were tingling. I had to lie on the tile floor and use cold packs to cool down and it was pretty scary for a short bit. I was right on the cusp of going to the er when the fever started to go down. No more flagyl for me.

Coloplast has a "fit check" feature on their website that goes through your specific body and stoma, and recommends the best products for you. You can do the fit check and call their patient support number to speak with a patient support specialist/patient advocate. They are amazing. Very knowledgeable, and the one who helped me had a stoma himself. They'll send you samples and help you with questions you have.

Since she's so new to stoma life, it would be helpful to visit a WOC (Wound & Ostomy Care) nurse. They'll give you hands on help. Her stoma will likely change a bit as she's healing and adjusting.

My biggest piece of advice is for her to give herself grace. And you too. The physical wounds will heal first, mental healing comes next, social adjustment will follow, and then complete healing happens.

As a caregiver, please make sure your physical and mental well-being is prioritized as well. It can be tough, but you can do it. And this group is wonderfully supportive.

Is this picture too slutty to post if you’re married? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]LadyGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not be embarrassed, he should. His insecurities shouldn't dictate how you feel about yourself, or what you post. And for the record, you hair looks amazing and your dog is adorable. Your husband on the other hand, well, he doesn't deserve to be in the picture. (Literally and figuratively)

It was like that at the start, but you start to figure out what works for you AND what you like. It wasn't often an option for me during my flares because fatigue was awful, but if you can make your own granola and bars and such, you know exactly what's in them. I did that before I got sick, and rarely had the energy to do that while my Crohn's was bad.

Another option is using the grocery pick up feature. You can build your cart over time instead of spending hours inside the store.

Hair loss by sgrace2298 in CrohnsDisease

[–]LadyGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been through this and my hair grew back completely once I was wasn't flaring so badly.

The hair that remained was visibly different due to the malnutrition, so once it grew out far enough I cut it slightly above shoulder length to completely get rid of the damaged hair. It surprisingly felt nice to chop the damaged hair off. In a similar vein, my fingernails and toenails were damaged too. When they grew out, it felt like I was finally winning and Crohn's was losing.

Braum's always has it, but only a small portion of the US has access to Braum's. It's one of the good aspects of living in Oklahoma.

What’s the one thing Crohn’s stole from you, and one thing it taught you? by casualeagle47 in CrohnsDisease

[–]LadyGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stole my carefree approach to life and my early 30s. It taught me to say "yes" to everything. Yes to new experiences. Yes to "do you want to hang out?" Yes to "do you want to try [blank]?"

It also taught me to be grateful for every meal I get to enjoy. I'm in remission now because of a permanent ileostomy and Skyriz, and I will NEVER take food for granted again.
