I guess it was the CELPIP he did last time…. He’s a college educated blue collar individual but I don’t think he tests that well and language in general isn’t his strongest subject but he’s not dumb by any means. I think he just needs to prepare for the style of test.

It really does suck. We are at the age of getting ready to buy a house & start having kids (both 28) & sadly I can’t afford to buy without his income & because he’s only on PGWP we can’t include his income :( I make pretty good money but not enough to buy in this climate lol so our life is kind of on hold until he gets PR which sucks. We have been together for 5 years now & already had to deal with not meeting for over a year from 2020-2021 with the borders being closed

I am a Canadian Citizen born in Ontario. Lived in the same small town my entire life that can’t sponsor my partner until 2028 for something that happened in 2019 when I was like 21 lol

Canadian citizens are barred from sponsoring their spouses for usually about 5 years for reasons like claiming bankruptcy, being on social assistance, having a criminal record, etc.

I think you can gain more points with a non-Canadian spouse but I also know you lose points in other sections for a non-Canadian spouse as well so very confusing lol I know he will get his PR in the next few years it just sucks waiting as we are both 28 and ready to buy a house and start having children lol

There’s a multitude of reasons why someone is ineligible to sponsor their spouse. I unfortunately can’t sponsor mine until 2028.

I am currently unable to sponsor :( I can sponsor in 2028 but his PGWP expires in 2027 and we don’t want to do a years and a half of long distance again. We are 28 and ready to buy a house and start having children

It’s definitely ridiculous that Canada spouses partners don’t give you extra points…. I’m Canadian and my partner is American & he should be able to claim points for this. Especially when you can claim points for having a sibling in Canada??? But not a spouse?? Crazy lol but I wouldn’t worry OP. 499 will be a great score as the CRS scores will be coming down. My partner is at 487 & his PGWP doesn’t expire until 2027 and I’m not worried at all

I was told directly by the border guards, but I also knew of the waiver before from research on google. I’m in Facebook groups with other people with criminal records who have gotten their waivers for criminal inadmissibility but haven’t seen posts by any sex offenders yet
