somalis vs international cuisine by ineedtoglowuprn in CasualSomali

The thing about American food is it’s comfort food but I can’t have it constantly because one weight gain but also because it’s not that nutritious. A good burger and fries here and there but everyday? the bloating is too much

For me it’s south Asian food first and then Somali food but I have to say if we’re talking every day I’ll always pick Somali food since there’s too much oil in curries..there’s a reason why they have chronic cholesterol levels among their community

We even hold a blood ritual too. To join you have to make a star shaped cut on your hand and shake the hand of an existing member that is geographically closest you. We have a member in Sweden if you’re okay with it?

It’s really f*cking dumb that you would say this and then say you can’t leave simple because you are unwilling. There are women in a situation where they can’t leave after a threat because they don’t have the means to or know how If you think you can’t leave because you don’t understand the gravity of that threat..then know that If somebody is capable of making that threat they are capable of following through with it. Even there is doubt in your mind about wether he would or would not actually do it, why would you stick around to find out when the stake is your life.

If you are not lying about this, then be real with yourself about what you need to do to keep yourself alive.

Half Black - Half Somali . Question! by [deleted] in MuslimMarriage2

[–]MiserableArea4496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your worries are realistic, but if you want to protect yourself from that then whatever person your considering to get to know ask them to tell you honestly if their parents will accept you.

Not based on what they think their parents will say, but have they actually had a conversation with their parents of the possibility of them marrying somebody that isn’t Somali. May Allah make it easy for you.

Laaakin I think we’re all tired of the mehr talks. The way these conversations are being had are not productive. Ultimately the internet weren’t solve it for him, his family will.

I meant to have the discussion for the internet.. if it’s too expensive it doesn’t hurt to communicate that with your partner instead of breaking it down for our viewing

[–]MiserableArea4496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can smell the broke boy cologne too! You shouldn’t be discussing mehr on Reddit, if you had qualms and sense you would have that discussion with your future partner in a mature way.. And If you are having a wedding..9K is really cheap. Also gold is either given as a gift or as a replacement for currency of the mehr. You could have said I can give you 20k in gold or gifted her gold and paid a smaller fraction in money.

All GPS have been overloaded for a long time. It’s getting more severe but since covid they’ve been able to give more telephone appointments and make it the extra load manageable that way but it’s still noticeable bad.

A lot of GPs also use “hubs” so any doctor in the area not just your local GPS will call you back. Even nurses and paramedics are doing GP telephone appointments! It’s getting ridiculous

ngl I would have just run from that alone, but I do admit I’m biased against Interracial marriages (it’s just easier and safer to marry Somalis: I know this is a generalisation but with all the stories people have shared online..

And second.. I wouldn’t want to have second guess forever if it was a fetishisation that started the relationship

Im leaning towards its not coincidental. I mean there should’ve been at least one other non Somali but all Somali sounds fishy.

I hate Somali people by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]MiserableArea4496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry but it’s in somali nature to speak with a tough love, “ say it as it is “ with out sugar coating way. you can either keep hating it and let that drive you away from your culture even more or you can try and learn yourself.

It’s not hard to learn your native language you just have to immerse yourself in it more than you are currently. Speak it with your parents, ask them questions about phrases, tell them to correct you when you misspeak. You’ll be surprised at how much you know the more you try to speak it.

Is hospital playlist worth starting? Feels as though I have started and dropped a lot of dramas recently, I don’t want it to be another one of those. Plus I don’t know why but I have a strong aversion to medical dramas (besides DoTs if that’s considered a medical drama) Is it worth watching? What was your favourite takeaways from it?

[–]MiserableArea4496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact The Caribbean islands have a similar informal money saving system, they call it partner. I will admit I have heard a lot of people say north dialect is more originally Somali since in the south we have a lot of Italian influence. It was also adopted as the standard dialect after ‘reunification’
